Story

The Maryland Society of Accounting & Tax Professionals was founded in 1959 to protect the right to practice of all accountants, bookkeepers and tax practitioners in the State of MD.

Mission

MSATP is a collective embodiment of solo, small, and mid-sized accounting, tax, and financial service businesses working together to create an environment in which our members’ businesses can thrive.

We do this by creating opportunities to build relationships and community, advocating to protect the profession(s), and providing continuing education and resources to help members maintain professional integrity.

Long ago when I began my practice a colleague and friend recommended I join MSATP.  I had been sharing my frustrations with the CPE course offerings available elsewhere which were geared towards larger firms and clients.  MSATP was recommended as the place to go for quality affordable education whose mission was to help accounting and tax professionals like myself help our clients.  Working with small businesses and independent professionals our needs and those of our clients are different.  That was in 2000.  Fast forward to 2022 I have served in various capacities on the MSATP board and committees.  I've met so many people I can honestly say have become friends who have helped me through the years to keep the positive energy going and know that I'm not alone!

I have been a member of MSATP since 2016. I have been volunteering at seminars, on committees and on the Board of Directors. I have attended many informative educational seminars & webinars with many talented speakers. My most memorable moments have been meeting members,  other committee members and Board members & helping each other through many issues. The staff spends endless hours making sure all members have the best experience with MSATP.

I have been a member and attended MSATP educational seminars since the late 1980's.  I was so pleased with what I had received from the Society I decided to volunteer to "give back".  Even through the volunteering I received more than I gave.  I have relationships with MSATP members that have industry or subject matter expertise.  These mutually beneficial relationships give our firm the client service resources found in much larger firms.  Along the way I developed friendships with colleagues that will last a lifetime.  MSATP has been a blessing to me both personally and professionally.

Being a member of the MSATP for coming up on two decades has given me the ability to deliver a higher level of service to my clients.  Through high quality, timely and relevant CPE, guidance and support from peer practitioners, and opportunities to develop leadership skills through volunteering, the MSATP is absolutely critical to our firm's success!

I've been involved with MSATP for over 6 years and on the Board for 3 years.  The collaboration with other members is unprecedented.  I can always find someone to bounce ideas around, assist with questions and a great group of resources.  The education options are plentiful and very reasonably priced.

Being new to the world of accountancy, being a member of MSATP has provided me with valuable tools and resources, both collegial and educational, to support my practice. I truly appreciate the depth of information provided from this group of highly collaborative professionals.

I came for the excellent CPE offerings, met some wonderful and fun fellow accountants and tax preparers and have been networking with many of them for decades! Just finished my 42nd tax season, and I highly recommend the MSATP to any and all fellow practitioners. Get educated, get involved...volunteer!

Note: public accountants include certified public accountants, enrolled agents, those with accounting degrees in public practice, tax professionals, tax preparers and bookkeepers.  Without the excellent professional help from the many members we met and worked with as volunteers in the Maryland Society of Accountants and Tax Professionals MSATP, my wife and I would not have enjoyed 40 profitable years as partners in our own self-employed accounting firm.

If you are a CPA/EA, this is a great group of individuals!
