I graduated here in 2013 and still know many students attending. From my experience and what I hear from current students, many teachers and staff do not address racist incidents and do not care about the concerns of minority students and parents when it comes to issues of diversity. As an alumni who lives in the area,  I have reached out to help them with diversity education and initiatives, and they have ignored all of my emails (they responded once saying they appreciate my help and would look into the opportunity, and then I never heard from them again). This lack of care shows a lack of general initiative on administration's part. I would not want any student going to a school that is run by administrators such as these.

Mason has a lot of work to do. The school needs to admit that there is something sinister happening behind its walls despite the appearance of the perfectly manicured, wealthy, white suburb that surrounds it. After every scandal including sexual misconduct by teachers, increased suicides, racial threats made by staff, all the administration tries to do is save face and maintain the school’s reputation. Sure, Mason has the funding to offer every sport, activity, or AP class imaginable, but at some point the focus needs to be the students’ wellbeing, not the amount to bullet points in a brochure.

I love Mason City Schools. The students are nice, and teachers are very supportive. My kid always talks about how much they love their school.
