Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary

About

Broadmoor’s nine miles of walking trails guide you through a variety of field, woodland, and wetland habitats.

Story

Broadmoor’s nine miles of walking trails guide you through a variety of field, woodland, and wetland habitats. A quarter-mile, universally accessible trail and boardwalk along the bank of Indian Brook and over the marsh offers great opportunities for birdwatching, photography, and sketching.

To enjoy this site in the winter, bring your snowshoes or cross-country skis. Stroll along the edge of Indian Brook, which flows into the Charles River at the sanctuary, and look for wood ducks and signs of beavers and otters from the 110-foot-long bridge.

Mission

Mass Audubon protects 36,500 acres of land throughout Massachusetts, saving birds and other wildlife, and making nature accessible to all. As Massachusetts’ largest nature conservation nonprofit, we welcome more than a half million visitors a year to our wildlife sanctuaries and 20 nature centers. From inspiring hilltop views to breathtaking coastal landscapes, serene woods, and working farms, we believe in protecting our state’s natural treasures for wildlife and for all people—a vision shared in 1896 by our founders, two extraordinary Boston women. Today, Mass Audubon is a nationally recognized environmental education leader, offering thousands of camp, school, and adult programs that get over 225,000 kids and adults outdoors every year. With more than 125,000 members and supporters, we advocate on Beacon Hill and beyond, and conduct conservation research to preserve the natural heritage of our beautiful state for today’s and future generations. We welcome you to explore a nearby sanctuary, find inspiration, and get involved. Learn how at massaudubon.org.

Nice place for a short hike. Liked the decks paths leading through the ponds throughout. Didn't see any animals today.

This is a beautiful nature bird sanctuary near the Charles River in Natick, Massachusetts. It's a great place to bring young children for a morning walk. The trails are extensive but all gentle and easily handled by young legs (although I do have to carry from time to time). Wildlife sighting will vary by time off year and time of day. We usually go mid-morning and will always see turtles and ducks. On good days we've seen a blue heron, lots of swallows, numerous songbirds, swans, and a red-tailed hawk. We've also seen snakes, deer, and what I think was an otter. The visitor center has a small gift shop and restrooms, but not much else. There's a small room which sometimes has pictures or other artwork, but I think it's used more extensively for programs put on by the Mass. Audobon Society. We are members, so entry is free (or more precisely, already paid for). It's $5 for adults, $4 for kids. A family of four would only need to go three times to make membership cost effective.

Great place to go for a peaceful walk! Trails are clearly marked, but not obtrusive. $5 entry fee for non members and the trails themselves are open dawn-dusk.

Great place to take the kids. Walk through the woods and along the water across bridges. Plenty of turtles to see for sure.
