Southern West Virginia's Premier Self Reliant Farm Stay Educational Center and B&B | Mavis Manor

Story

Mavis Manor is Southern West Virginia Premier Self Reliant Farm Stay Retreat. The 1897 Queen Anne Victorian Country Manor situated on 33 acres nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located in the small hamlet of Flat Top, WV, a small town that is also home of Winterplace Ski Resort.

We specialize in Farm to Fork localness. Our permaculture farming styles include our flock of 70+ happy chickens. The locally famous Sylvia Smackers. (She’s a pig! But shh… I’m not sure she knows that yet) On the grounds we focus mainly on permaculture, like our fruit forest, but also include traditional gardening styles as well. What we doesn’t grow on ground we take every possible stride to purchase locally.

We offer an escape from your hectic lifestyle. The guest rooms have smart, eclectic styling, historic southern charm, and 21st century sustainable thinking. Minutes off of I-77, located between Bluefield and Beckley and ideal halfway point from the Great Lakes to the Carolinas

My fiance and I had a fantastic experience at the Mavis Manor. We were welcomed instantly upon arrival and given a tour. Our host was was very gracious and accommodating with helping us with directions to places in the area. Also, we had a sound night's sleep followed the next morning by a delicious breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs and blueberry pancakes with bacon, not to mention the tasty coffee! We sat and talked with Justin for several hours having great conversations about all sorts of topics. Very cool and interesting guy. If we head towards the Flat Top area again, we will be sure to stop by :)

My Grandmother went there 9/28/12-9/29/12 with her ladies for the "Red Hat Society". She said " Everybody at the Manor was so gracious to us! The pancakes were to die for! They made zucchini bread that was the best we ever had. We had the "wilderness room" and it was delightful. The bathroom was very spacious. We would recommend the Mavis Manor to anyone looking for a quality Bed and Breakfast.

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night to break up the drive to our honeymoon destination. We had an enchanted night! The innkeeper was kind and welcoming, the atmosphere cozy and beautiful, and the room was absolutely lovely. The Manor is surrounded by beautiful hills and a quiet green yard. the porch swing is perfect for a quiet evening. The breakfast was delicious- and the innkeeper asked us the night before when we wanted it ready! Bacon, eggs, toast, fruit, cereals, bagels, and a wide variety of teas were offered. Also, we were told to help ourselves to snacks in the kitchen anytime!
