Trekked all the way to Flushing in pummeling rain just to try Maxi's wrapped delights, and even though we had some seating snafus in the beginning, I'm not mad I journeyed. Yes, the wontons are great, but I've never been super into wontons so they weren't what I liked best. The best item, for me, was Maxi's guan tang jiao the "Dumpling" topping, especially when served in a noodle soup with Flat Rice Noodle. I grew up eating this as a specialty item in Cantonese dim sum places and being scolded by my cost-conscious mother for wanting it because it cost more than the other items. Maxi's version is huge and loaded with generous amounts of shrimp, bamboo and wood ear. Get this. Thank me later. Other items worth mentioning: The Fried Fish Skin is a good soup dipper if you want to add sea flavor to your broth. The Curry Fish Balls aren't bad but you could skip them if you're trying to save stomach skin. And the Dace Fish Balls are just as generous, juicy and flavorful as the dumplings and wontons. Throw in the fact that these bowls cost less than the price of a happy hour cocktail in Manhattan and you really have no reason not to eat here. My Canto grandparents would be so proud.
Extremely authentic Cantonese noodle shop. The noodles were very fresh and almost crunchy. Soup base was good, and the shrimp dumplings were huge and tender. Service was friendly and when they found out we were from out of town, they recommended lots of fan favorites and even showed us their frozen menu to cook at home we couldn't bring them with us, but would be a great option for locals.
The oversized shrimp wonton is what attracts everyone there, most part. Of course the hospitality of the female owner made it even more special. Congratulations on her second store near the 495. We also had the curry fish balls, but probably will pass on the next visit. Tasted good just not welling to pay that much for it. The brisket and the beef tendon caused extra two bucks per item. Probably would just add extra wonton next time. Oh how can I not mentioned about the parking! Street parking and public lot are tough to find, average private lot runs about $7-10 an hour not including the tips.
Maxi's Noodle is a great stop for shrimp wonton enthusiasts. Their succulent shrimp-filled wontons are enveloped in thin wrappers, ensuring a uniform texture without any chewy, hard spots. While the fish balls might not have the usual bouncy texture I’m used to, they still have good flavor. I appreciate the variety of add-on options available, with some items incurring an additional but fair charge.
Maxi noodles is one of the best bang for buck restaurants in queens. Having a great selection of entrees and condiments. It Makes this small restaurant one of the best places to grab a quick bite. Amazing and quick service of all meals. You have to try their dumplings as it is generously packed with greatness. The only improvement I would like to see is another location or expansion of their main space.
Not a fan of the upsell energy, they do it in Cantonese and English. They will ask you how about add fishballs or this or a drink or anything else . Milk tea 1/5. It wasn't very smooth and the tannins were overwhelming. There is so many better options for milk tea. wontons are 3/5. Wontons are large and are shrimp heavy but i am not a fan of the texture. The wontons kind of have a fishball texture. They are heavily seasoned with white pepper. The broth was generic. There is no bathroom, they do direct customers to go to a mall. bring cash for a cheaper price.
Best wonton noodle with jumbo size shrimp wonton, and super soft egg noodle, on top with juicy and tender beef stew. The broth is very nice. The staff is vert accommodating for a kid eventhough the shop is small. Frozen wonton also avail to buy and take home. Parking: There is municipal parking lot on the right , or u can park at Tangram mall parking near by and walk.
My boyfriend and I stopped in for a late Sunday lunch an hour before closing. The food was so good , we barely spoke haha. Try the fish balls & noodle soup! The beef was so soft and yummy! The vegetables were fresh! The atmosphere is like being welcomed into Hong Kong. Will come back.Food: 5/5
Busy noodle place at lunch on Saturday. Small inside and some outdoor seating.Very basic no frills place with busy take-out. Staff is efficient and quick. Food is pretty good.Food: 4/5
Broth was hot and delicious, duck egg noodle had great firmness/bite, and wontons and dumplings both thin skins were so savory and full of flavor. Just amazing! Great portions as well, but couldn't resist from ordering a second bowl. : Service is friendly and extremely efficient, and there is complimentary hot tea. Not too much seating, but sufficient, and small discount if you pay with cash! Thank you for the delicious meal.
