I been a customer for many many year and I have Never receive bad customer service, I love the fact it seem like you trying to get in Fort Knot when inquiring about your account, they extra needed information is a good thing to me, let me know if someone is trying to steal my information they better know ALL things about me otherwise MECU will not entertaining you (thank you for that). I have tried to get a debt consolation loan but, was unable to because of my credit (that's why i wanted the loan to pay off debt) I was denied but, they do allow me to get the Christmas loan and this year will be my 3rd time receiving it (Thank You MECU). MECU staff can kinda reflection on them as a whole when giving poor customer service but address it with a manager then not when you get home and go online to bash them online, address it there with a manager. I once had MECU and SECU account and gave SECU up because they are not loyal to their customer like MECU.

Please do not use MECU for your banking needs. I should have walked out the door when I first tried opening an account and they tried to tell me I don’t live in the city of Baltimore, even though both the Maryland MVA and US Post Office say I do. They grudgingly allowed me the honor of opening an account since I also work in Baltimore. If you need quarters for one of the many local laundromats, don’t bother with MECU. According to their employees they don’t exchange money for non-customers, or will claim to not have any rolls of quarters. They also don’t exchange money for MECU customers, claiming to not have any rolls of quarters, or any quarters at all. According to MECU it is fine and acceptable for them to surreptitiously re-order your transactions on a secret transaction record in an effort to induce insufficient funds and negative balance fees against your account. When the real transaction history and your statement shows that there was no real overdraw or negative balance you will have to then repeatedly demand they reverse any fees that were fraudulently charged. MECU will insist the fees are valid, even though all the evidence says otherwise. MECU has what they claim is a secure messaging service on their website, which requires you to be logged into your MECU account to use. However the secure messaging department will refuse to communicate with you about your account over their secure messaging service. The secure messaging department will also refuse to answer why there is the service if they refuse to use it as it is intended or supposed to be used. If you are traveling outside your home state MECU will randomly decide any transaction is possible fraud and turn off your card, even if you inform them ahead of time you will be traveling. They also will make ZERO effort to contact you to verify you still have your card or if the transactions are valid. After you call in to get your card turned back on, and have another note put on file that you are traveling, you will soon find your card deactivated again. When you call in, again, MECU will then tell you that no one actually reads the account notes on file. After calling in multiple days to get your card reactivated, MECU will tell you that even though you tell them the charges that keep happening in the same area in the same businesses are valid, what MECU considers suspicious activity changes daily and completely overrides what the rules were for the previous day. Plan on having to call in and jump through security hoops with multiple departments to have your card turned back on daily if you travel anywhere outside your home state. The ATMs at their banks very often are completely non-functional, or have a major malfunction-not being able to dispense or accept any cash for instance, most often not working before and during long weekends. If you have a fraudulent or unauthorized charge on your account MECU will initially refuse to investigate or do anything about it, and then eventually will take all the necessary information to investigate and reverse the charge. Then instead of investigating and reversing the fraudulent or unauthorized charge, or anything else useful, they will just close your account, waiting until after they’ve closed it to notify you the account is closed, then ignore and refuse to acknowledge any communication attempts from you to them. If you are a fan of constant and blatant incompetence, abuse, and ineptitude from a bank or credit union MECU is the perfect place for you.

I have only been to the Catonsville Rt 40 West location. Never in my life have I experienced the level of UNPROFESSIONALISM. In the drive thru teller Never says welcome to Mecu then handle yours transaction. Sometimes it's handle transaction & give me my receipt then the teller will thank me. That's just 1% of the time. The other 99% of the time the teller sends my receipt and that's it. No have a nice day, just nothing. New Management is definitely needed & a real training class for the tellers and make sure that it is enforced.

I don't bank with them but I went in to withdraw money since they are part of my credit Unions co op. The teller was super helpful and got what I needed even though I didn't have all of the information I should have.
