No gatehouse.  Have to choose  site and then call the reservation number. Did not see a campground host during the time we were there.  Bathrooms were old and showers were cold. Not attractive at all.   There was evidence that someone had been to clean them in the morning.  Nice walk to the lake. Good for a pass through.

Lovely quiet campsites on the lake. Would have been 5 stars if the campsites weren't so close together. Facilities were clean. The drinking water didn't taste very good so I bought spring water at the  convenience store in Valley City. Also make sure you look at a map in advance and don't just trust Google to navigate there successfully, I was told to turn down a road that definitely didn't exist through a farm.

On a long trip out to the west coast from Milwaukee to see some National parks, I stopped here to camp the first night. Went swimming in the dark and bought a fishing license, some bait and spent a dollar to gain access to a resorts private fishing pier where I was guaranteed I would catch some fish. The next morning, I shared the sun rise from the pier with a pelican and caught a 14" crappie and a 13" bullhead. It was an auspicious start of the second day. By noon I was at Theodore Roosevelt National Park on the other side of North Dakota.
