Story

The Fellowship for Metlar House is a 501(c)(3) foundation. Its Board of Trustees works closely with Piscataway Township to support it historical and cultural museum primarily through a vigorous fundraising program. This program includes proceeds from events, the Dutch Door Gift Shop, programs, workshops, tour fees, matching grant initiatives, membership drives and major fundraising campaigns – board members chairing committees for each. The Board chair and vice chair hire and fire staff, the Executive Director’s approval linked to Piscataway Township’s Mayor and Council endorsement. The Board of Trustees has final approval on staff’s long range planning and program ideas, collection acquisitions and deaccessioning suggestions, historic property management, restoration and collection conservation projects, consultant hires, exhibit development and costs, facility issues (such as interior repairs) and office management needs. All restoration and rehabilitation plans are discussed with the township by the board, and the township seeks board advice about building and site needs which they fund.

Mission

The Fellowship for Metlar House is a committed and caring not-for-profit foundation that encourages involvement and cultivates support from individuals, corporations, businesses, and organizations to enable The Metlar/Bodine House, a State and National Registered Historic building, to fulfill its goal to be numbered among the state's top-tier, publicly owned historic site museums. The Museum is dedicated to celebrating the area's vibrant past and the development of the Raritan River Valley, from prehistoric time to the present, using transportation as the connecting theme.
