At first we were put in a smoking room that was absolutely discusting. After the first night we were moved to a non-smoking room on second floor which was much better. Unless you are a smoker, avoid third floor which  is smoky even in hallways. Cleanliness in non smoking room was fair but not great. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was typical free breakfast. Staff was friendly.

Nicer than ratings indicated. Utilitarian but very clean. A nice big room with sitting area, kitchenette,  broad range of TV options, and lots of pillows with at least 3 different densities.

Decent hotel. Nothing super fancy, but staff was good and basics were covered.

Room was not very clean to start out with. It is in a pretty nice location in New Ulm however. It's in the middle of town with an Applebee's in walking distance from it.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. 
Positives. 
Our bed was comfy, and linens were fresh.
Room was clean.
Shower was good. 
Room was cool when we entered (early July stay)
Room Key worked every time first try
Check In and Check Out was fast and easy
Elevator
Needed and extra blanket and received with no issues and very timely
Staff was kind and helpful
Pool area was clean with enough towels to accommodate all the swimmers. 
My son was the only one to eat breakfast. He enjoyed the waffles. 
WIFI was fine. 
Fridge worked fine. Did not use microwave or coffee pot.
TV worked fine but did have to manually turn it on, remote initially didn't want to work. but eventually did.

Negatives
We had a room on 3rd floor. Apparently must be smoking floor. The hallways reeked of stale smoke. In the morning we could smell someone smoking as it lingered into our room. 
It was a little louder than most hotels, we could hear other guests more than normal. 
Toilet seat was a little loose, causing it to pinch leg if not aware of it.
The elevator definitely needs adjustments, the sensor on the door was bad. My husband almost lost his arm in the door and my husband witnessed another guest (elderly lady) as she was almost hit by the closing door that apparently does not sensor something in the way. She would've been trapped or injured badly.
breakfast was slim pickings ~ although my son enjoyed the waffles, they took about 5 minutes to make with a line waiting. My husband said there was not much to choose from so he didn't eat.

I have stayed at Microtel's before and I have enjoyed our stays. I will be trying other Microtel's and will likely return to this hotel for one more try since my son races BMX and we travel for state races to New Ulm. This hotel beats the Econo Lodge next door by far!!
