I've just come back from the Middletown DMV. It went smoothly! Very speedy and painless. I've been to DMVs in New York and California and my experiences there were not fun. I got there around 8am and there were already about 10 people ahead of me in line (A handful of them brought camp chairs which seemed a little unnecessary to me, I wonder how early they got there?). When the doors opened at 8:30, there were only about 25 people in line, with a steady stream of people coming in. I'd say if you got there around 8am like I did then the line shouldn't be too bad by that point but YMMV. I went in to do an out-of-state license transfer from New York to RI. You can do out-of-state transfers at DMV locations other than Cranston. I prepared for my visit by filling out the necessary form online and printing it, as well as bringing all the proofs of identification and residence. It really pays to do this ahead of time and to be as organized as possible. They have you do a quick vision test, there was no written test (different story for EXPIRED licenses). They'll take your picture. Once I got inside I checked in and got my ticket, and then only had to wait about 10 minutes before being called. In at 8:30, out before 9 with a temporary license in hand.

They never answer their phone! Rude staffs except this one lady, she is very nice and gives you all the information! The 3 stars is for her!
