Midway Fire Rescue is proud to serve all the residents and visitors to Litchfield Beach, Pawleys Island, Prince George and Debordieu communities.
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Midway Fire Rescue’s website. I hope you enjoy a glimpse into who we are, what we do, and how we do it. I believe you will see a common denominator as you explore our site. That is a commitment to excellence in service. When men like Ed Mills, Wallace Pate, Boyd Marlowe, Judge Henry Deer, and Colonel Seth Dingle got together in 1962 and decided they needed to start a fire department; I doubt that they could have imagined the growth this department or the area would experience in the years to come. Yet here we are. What started as one small volunteer station has grown into a combination department with three stations and approximately 80 members, 62 of which are full time paid employees. What started as an answer to fire problems has grown into a true “all-hazards” department, providing Advanced Life Support response and transport, hazardous materials response, various disciplines of technical rescue including water rescue; and of course fire response. What started as a reaction to fires now also includes an award winning fire and injury prevention and education program. We have truly been fortunate over the years to have great people supported by visionary leaders within the department and the county, topped off by the support of the citizens. This has definitely helped us in our attempt to keep pace with our area’s growth. The last few years have been economically tough for everyone. Even with that we have been able to make several upgrades to enhance the safety of our personnel and better serve the citizens and visitors to our area. I believe the future is bright. It is most definitely a great honor and responsibility to be Chief at this time in the department’s history. We are blessed to have a talented and dedicated team, which I am sure will make our journey even better. Enjoy the visit and please check back as we update the site regularly. Should you find yourself in our area, please stop by and visit. This truly is a great department in a great area. Be safe and take care of each other!
