Kind of a backwards place for me— atmosphere is the best out of all sushi spots in the area. The sushi was just okay to me— all their special rolls seem so similar with multiple types of fish, wasn’t what I was looking for. The spicy edamame, sashimi and seaweed salad were the highlights for me. I would come back but not for specialty rolls… hope this helps!
Sushi is great! Salmon dinner was really good. The fried veggies in tempura were kind of big and didn't fry well. Rick shrimp was good but very small portions. Parking: You have to prepay for close by parking, or pay the meters and walk a little. Wheelchair accessibility: Absolutely not wheel chair accessible at all! As soon as u walk in u have to walk downstairs to get to the restaurant.
I enjoy Mikado. It is my go to for Sushi while in Middletown. I've always had a good experience there. Food is always delicious and the environment is top notch.Food: 5/5
Our first time here. We sat at the sushi bar and were pleasantly surprised. The food, drinks and service were all awesome, the food was quite tasty and looked awesome. We will be back for more. A+
Great menu with lots of different sushi options and dinners. Me and my sister got the ‘peach sunrise’ frozen drink and it faintly reminded me of the taste of beer but in a good way, and it came with this little strawberry sticks in the whipped cream. I got the Chicken Pad Thai which had some egg and peanuts in the noodles. We had a pleasant server and the food came out fast. A little bit more on the expensive side though.
One here for lunch because there wasn't a lot of option where I was meeting up with my boyfriend because I was out of town. Decide to try here because I love Asian food. It is located in a basement which then gives it a funky smell when you walk in. This already gave me suspicion of the quality. Between my boyfriend and i, we got five dishes. The fried rice was bland, the sushi was not fresh. And I always finish my sushi. This time I did not out of fear for my health. No complaints about the service because anyone can have a bad day. My reviews are strictly about food because opening a restaurant is about serving food. This will have to be the worst Asian food I've ever had and I've had a lifetime of experience.
Stylish place located in a fashionable basement. Not purist since their menu includes some Chinese dishes like lo mein, but they can't mix a proper Irish coffee on a bleak day, which lets you know that they are beholden to their cuisine. Friendly waitstaff, not Englishly challenged. Parking is public and usually plentiful. Prices fair and the food is delicious.
Awesome atmosphere. Friendly staff but the food was not good. The shrimp shumai is pre-made frozen. The gyoza was ok probably frozen as well. The pinaple fried was bland and flavorless. The sushi was terrible. Fell apart when I tried to eat it. The crab in the spider roll was burnt. The water front roll was just gross and the Japanese fried rice is the same as the pinaple just with out pinapl. No flavor no seasoning. It's not even fried!!!! Don't waste your time or money.
Traditional Japanese cuisine. Mikado is the place to go for sushi. They have been in business before long time. Nice and quiet ambient.
What a disappointment! Mikado has really gone downhill recently speaking as someone who has eaten here a number of times over the past 20 years. I had the hibachi salmon dinner: The salmon pieces were very thin, which probably made it impossible for the chef to cook properly. Not surprising, the salmon was VERY overcooked, to the point of being almost leathery. The vegetables were also badly overcooked. The fried rice, thank goodness, was at least edible, though nothing special. I had given up on the salmon and the vegetables after a few bites. The only reason I gave 2 stars and not just 1 was because the ambiance was lovely as usual, and the service was friendly and fast. But the main reason for eating out is the food. Do yourself a favor and go instead to Hachi or Niuda Noodle and Sushi, both just a short walk away.
