Story

The Millennium Gate Museum is a 100 foot tall monumental gate whose traditional exterior echoes Roman design ideals. The Gate houses the most comprehensive Georgia history museum in the state and hosts other world-class art and history exhibitions annually. The exterior features major original works of art by Alexander Stoddart of Scotland, one of the world’s sculptural giants. Its multiple galleries host a unique collection of interrelated displays and exhibits showcasing the pioneering spirit of Georgia. It pays tribute to the best of classical design and to the civic spirit of Atlanta, where much of the city’s early architecture arose during the Classical Revival of the early 19th century. The gate’s beauty exists as a constant reminder that the architectural principles which have inspired generations of people over the last two millennia go hand-in-hand with new urban environments, and that the classical virtues of the past still inform and unite people today. The Gate, with it stunning grounds, superlative sculpture and exquisite galleries, is a precious architectural and cultural gem for all generations, gracing our lives with beauty and affirming the highest ideals of humankind.

Mission

The Millennium Gate Museum’s mission is to preserve and interpret Georgia history, art, culture and philanthropic heritage as well as highlight Georgia’s historical and aesthetic relevance to the United States and to the world.

Great place with many places to see. I would love to come back to take pictures outside. This place is in great location with views of downtown Atlanta and Atlantic Station. You call walk downtown from this place also. This would be called a hidden gem because of the location. All you have to do is follow the arch and walk below to find this place. I found places to charge my phone outside also.

We didn't go into the museum so I'm not rating that. I'm giving the 5 star rating because this is a great place to get pictures, easy to get to, and a really cool building. Reminds me of being in Europe.

Full disclosure, not ordinarily much of a museum type person and this museum in particular hasn't got much on display. However, it's size is actually a strength because the docent gave us an amazing tour with really interesting anecdotes about historical and contemporary figures, he even brought us up on the roof! I'd say it's a toss-up, if you can go when it's not busy and you can really engage with the people that run it I would recommend it otherwise I'd probably skip it since Atlanta has so many other great museums.
