Holy cow, I've lived in Rochester for over 15 years and how am I just finding out about this place? Truly a hidden find. They have some less famous works by very famous artists, which for only a 45 minute drive was amazing to see. Plus admission is reasonable. I'm going to start watching their website for the traveling exhibits! If you haven't been here, you need to go!

This place is really cool, a hidden gem for the Midwestern nautical aficionado I'd even say. Not a huge collection, and not hugely diverse, in relation to style of art, but holy cow, what they've got is some top notch art by extremely accomplished and well known painters (mostly oil paintings), mix with a few lesser known works. Gorgeous building, inside and out. Absolutely worth a trip! We made the trek down on a Sunday from the twin cities for a little change of scenery and it was a great day.

A surprisingly great art museum. How good? They have an original "Washington Crossing the Delaware"

A jewel of a museum. World-class art in a beautiful building. Big enough to make it worthwhile, and yet small enough to be accessible and not overwhelming. Don't miss it if you are in Winona; it's a beautiful drive to get to if you're elsewhere.

If you love art, it's worth stopping. They have the private collections of the owners of Fastenal, traveling collections, and then one usually by a Minnesota or Midwestern artist. All of the art is nautical or water themed. The collection includes a Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh. Very inexpensive pricing, especially for students. I think I paid three dollars to get in.
