Mission Avenue is an officially designated, alternative curriculum public elementary school.
Mission School is guided by a unified philosophy that provides a high quality, standards-based, and comprehensive elementary school education. In Open classrooms, emphasis is placed on individuality and reaching each child’s potential.
Parent participation is a vital part of the open school experiential learning program at Mission Avenue. Parents enhance the program by providing additional resources, skills and talents. Parents are encouraged to volunteer two hours a week per child either on campus or off. This involvement promotes small group instruction in the classroom and increases the parents’ involvement in their children’s learning. Because learning doesn't happen just in the classroom, field education experiences are an important part of the curriculum at Mission.
These field education experiences are funded by classroom donations based on parent-approved grade-level budgets. The Mission Ave. PTA helps parents organize fundraisers and seek donations to supplement the funds available for field education experiences.
We welcome the participation of all families who recognize the remarkable, exciting, and distinguished learning community that we’ve created at Mission Avenue Open School.
