We tried to go to T & L but they were closed. (Again. Hm.) We then found Mission BBQ. Pros: Friendly staff. Very helpful people. Atmosphere a bit overdone, but it's their living room, not mine. Cons: Prices were pretty high for what you got. $18.95 brought us a "full slab" of baby back pork ribs, overdone just enough to remind you that you should have gone somewhere else. "Cheesy potatoes", why not take some white Velveeta-type cheese and throw it into some mashed potatoes from a box? Mac and cheese was average. The most annoying thing was the brisket - one medium-sized piece, about as far from "melt in your mouth" or "falling off the bone" as you could get. Collard greens were good. If you like real barbecue, avoid the sauces here. There are six on every table, and "average" is too kind a word. We spent $38+ on lunch for two, and threw away the leftovers. There's a push at the counter/cash register for you to buy their "personalized" drink glass, a plastic cup about the size of a medium at any Go-Mart. They say a portion goes back to the USO. They're very gung-ho armed forces, but it started me wondering. If the whole point is to care about America and our future, why not use biodegradable cups and plastic ware? Or have garbage and recycling separated? I know that seems like a silly, small thing, but in for a penny, in for a pound. If you're going to shut down at noon each day to play the National Anthem (does everyone stop eating and stand up to salute?), and hold yourself out as a chain that contributes to causes like the USO and Fallen Firefighters, it would also be nice to see what percentage of the gross actually goes to those charities. They don't seem to be listed on Charity Navigator either. (Though it is possible they operate under another corporate name and are listed there.) At any rate, don't go expecting good food. Like most other chains, it's relying on its reputation, its speed, and people like us, who hoped for some good BBQ and wound up with none.

The barbecue here is the best I've had. They have a smoked meatloaf which is something you won't find at other barbecue places. If you like meatloaf, this is a must try. But everything that I tried on their menu was truly outstanding, so you just can't go wrong. The The managers and the wait staff could not be more friendly.

I pride myself on contributing to Mission BBQ. I love, believe, and STAND for the mission behind the amazing good and inviting atmosphere. I've been to most all the Mission BBQ locations and although the BRADENTON location is still in it's first year they have my attention! Thank you for another perfect visit!

Always an amazing experience, great "family" behind the counter. It feels like a chain (cleanliness and structure) but the people are as hometown as you need! The service is great, you can always expect tasty foods and wonderful dessert cups. My favorites are the banana pudding pie and the Mississippi mud pie. Oh yeah, if you're frequent, buy the cup for the combo discount.

This review isn't actually about the food - or the people, who were actually really really nice and helpful - but about the waste. All utensils and containers are disposable plastic, which is an irresponsible company decision. I hope to see this change sooner rather than later. But again, the people were very nice.
