We adopted an older cat that had been at the shelter for over a month and are very thankful to have provided him with a loving home. We went three time, once for visit, once for filing adoption papers and the last time to pick him up. Every time the service was good and I was very satisfied. I have read the other reviews and I don't know why there is an issue if this is a kill shelter. In a perfect world there would be no kill shelters but what do you expect a place to do when they run out of room? I would not give a negative review based on that. I have faith that this location is doing it's best with it's limited budget.

I almost feel bad for writing this review because it will make it more difficult for the animals at this shelter to be rehomed... But, really, something needs to be said. The staff at this facility make it difficult to get any information about a pet in their care. If you call, you're likely to be put on hold for ten minutes or more. It's like they're just hoping you'll hang up instead. When you're back on the phone with them, it sounds like the woman you're talking to has a better time picking her nose than discussing anything with you. You're obviously being a drag on her day, and getting information out of someone is like pulling teeth. "I don't know," "That's not in the computer," "I'd have to call the vet," "I guess," are all unacceptable answers that we were provided with numerous times during our calls to these people. After half a dozen different phone calls over a week to get information on just one dog, my family and I finally went to the shelter to meet him in person (we'd received different reports about him from each person we spoke to). Upon arrival, an extremely rude young woman (I wish I caught her name so I could post it here) informed us it was too late to see any dogs... It was 5pm, and hours posted were until 7pm. No matter, we decided to try to at least talk to the staff again to get more information...No such luck. The two at the front desk wouldn't even bother to look at us while we were talking. Rude Woman #1 obviously felt she had no need to explain anything to us, that the dog we'd been calling about was going to a breed-specific rescue due to behavioral issues (again, this is about the eighth version of the story we'd heard). When I, a behaviorist and professional trainer, asked what his issues were she couldn't quite tell me. "I think he doesn't like to be touched." Excuse me? He doesn't like to be touched, and you have him listed as an adoptable pet? That makes no sense at all. That poor dog is still listed on the website as available and I highly doubt any rescue group been contacted to pull him. In the rescue and shelter community, I know it's hard to keep a pleasant face...You deal with tough situations, ignorant people, and frustrating circumstances more than most people do. But how the staff at this particular facility interact and "provide service" is absolutely atrocious. They make it more difficult than it already is to adopt a pet; you'd think they'd be at least a little proactive in rehoming these poor animals. If I could give no stars for this place, I would. It's a damn shame though; those animals need help, and the people are the ones who make it impossible. I hope the women at the front desk are truly ashamed of themselves for the incarceration their attitudes are sentencing those animals to.

Horrible Staff at Montgomery County! My trouble started when a lunatic from the Washington Animal Rescue League showed up at my house repeatedly, demanding that I change my will & Estate to name WARL my beneficiary & her my executor. I refused. She tried emotional blackmail that I don t love my dogs. l told her my dogs don t need $1 Million. That number excited her. She began stalking my house, asking neighbors questions about me. I was suspicious she might steal my dogs. Finally, she reported me to Mont County for having no dog licenses. Unhappily, staff at the shelter were all too happy to jump on the harrassment wagon. Knowing I was traveling the next day, Mont Co gave me 4 DAYS to get the licenses, then hauled me into Court on a $500 FINE. The Judge rejected the fine, which was cured by the licenses. Then Mont Co went back to Court & declared that I had not got licenses after our hearing. It was a stupid lie to justify trying to impound my dogs. I absolutely despise these people. I am complaining to the County Executive & the County Council. These Animal people are lunatics and extortionists. The whole staff at Montgomery County Humane Society should be fired.

MAY 31, 2013 AT 3:15 P.M. FIRST OF ALL - WAS ON HOLD FOREVER AND WHEN THE FRONT DESK PERSON DID PICK UP SHE WAS SO INDIGNANT THAT I ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ELSE. SHE COULD HAVE CARED LESS WHY I WAS CALLING AND MADE THAT KNOWN TO ME INSTANTLY. I HAVE ADOPTED MANY ANIMALS THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND FRANKLY HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED LIKE THIS, ESPECIALLY BY SOMEONE THAT IS CLEARLY UNEDUCATED IN THIS FIELD. THIS PERSON SHOULD BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY WITH SOMEONE WITH COMPASSION FOR A LOST ANIMAL. I WILL ATTEMPT AGAIN TO REACH SOMEONE WITH RESPONSIBILITY TO FILE MY LOST ANIMALY REPORT WITH, BUT WITH EACH VISIT TO THE SHELTE ON ROTHGEB DRIVE IN ROCKVILLE I AM MORE AND MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE TREATMENT OF THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS THE ANIMALS.
