Loved the food! First time here and it did not disappoint. I came for the Ramen but ended up mistakenly trying other stuff… they offer a beer with 3 appetizers for $12.00 dollars which seemed exciting so I went ahead and ordered that - however our server brought out 4 different things and when we asked it actually has their own choice of appetizers not for you to choose so we spent more than we intended to. Just clarifying for any other guests who might go there for the first time. Other then that we loved the food and will definitely return.
Last week, my boyfriend took me here to celebrate late Valentine’s Day and the food is excellent! The fresh ingredients and quality of the food is well prepared by the chefs. The ambiance is comfortable. We ordered the beef bowl, assorted sashimi, karaage, and many more! If you’re planning to come here, do come within at least 30 mins or an hour to wait in line before opening. Definitely will be coming back here again
The food is delicious and suits my taste. Please remember to make a reservation before coming. I've been here twice, and each time I had to wait for 2-3 hours before being seated.Food: 5/5
My favorite place in the whole dfw. Always a wait because it's worth it. If you plan to arrive after 8pm you might as well plan on just going another day. There's a line outside by 430pm usually lol. It's a very small place but not so noticeable once you're seated. I personally think the best area is the bar seating overlooking the kitchen and grills. I've never been much of a fish enthusiast until I came here. The grilled miso salmon I could eat all day, hell the regular one as well. The teriyaki yellowtail and the yellowtail collar are both really good. I think any grilled fish they serve here would be good. There's so many things I could list out that are great but it would be quicker to list the things I dislike. Shout out to the staff as well. Some of the most hard working people I've seen in the kitchen. It's busy from the time they open til close and they're getting the orders in and out very quickly. They've always been nice to me every time I've been here. This place has been a part of a lot of good memories and I hope its open forever.
Mr. Max is in an unassuming strip mall off of a busy intersection of Irving. As people who refuse to eat anything we can get at home when we travel, we were excited to try this izakaya restaurant. We assumed we could try sushi and sashimi in addition to izakaya, but we were only partially correct. The first disappointment was that, though they claim you make reservations, no one ever answers the phone for you to do so. It wasn't a big deal, but they already had a waitlist when we arrived at 5:14 14 minutes after they opened on a Thursday evening. We were second on that waitlist and were looking at a 30-45 minute wait. It turned out to be 45 minutes, which we waited in our car in the parking lot. The interior looks like a Japanese house or a large izakaya. Seats are lining the bar which runs the length of the dining room and overlooks the kitchen. There are also traditional Japanese low tables, where you remove your shoes, climb up, and sit in a shallow well area. I can't imagine how easy it is for disabled persons to manage this, but I'm sure, with a good amount of help, it's possible. The other disappointment with this restaurant was a younger server who was very cold and curt. We greeted her, thanked her, and bussed for her, but she never broke a smile, gave us a "You're welcome," or engaged other than to ask us what we wanted and drop off food. An older lady was a lot nicer and we wished she would've come by more often. We ordered quite a few things that were on the menu: -Blue Fin Fatty Tuna: absolutely amazing and melt-in-your-mouth tender. -Grilled Miso Marinated Salmon: a bit overcooked, but well flavored. -Grilled Beef Tongue: thinly sliced, great caramelization, and tender. -Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna Sashimi: amazing in texture and flavor. This was a special, so I don't know if they always offer it. - Edamame: basic with salt. Nothing special. -Grilled Squid: devoid of flavor except char, but nicely tender. -Tako Wasabi: raw octopus in a pungent wasabi dressing. It was addicting. -Grilled Shishito Pepper: charred and pleasant. More than half had spice. -Grilled Mackerel: meaty and well-seasoned with perfect caramelization. -Grilled Yellowtail w/Teriyaki: meaty and juicy. Exceptionally flavored. -Fried Chicken Wings w/Nagoya Style Seasoning: the meat wasn't seasoned, only fried and topped with seasoning. It lacked flavor. -Takoyaki: Husband really enjoyed these octopus balls. He said they tasted like a delicious seafood meatball. I had the Lime Chuhai very refreshing to drink, and my hubby had a Sapporo. There was no sushi, only sashimi, and for our very large order, we paid $176, which included tax. I recommend you visit Mr. Max, but be prepared for a worthwhile wait.
One of the best Japanese spots I’ve tried. Everything was incredible. One of my favorite restaurant interiors, too feels like you’re in Tokyo. There are like 12 bar seats and 5 tables traditional Japanese seating so not actually a table. You also have to take your shoes off! Reserve in advance by calling the restaurant. There’s always a line. They can be booked out at least a few weeks. This is a really popular spot for a reason. Pictured are delicious rice sandwiches!
YUM. I’m still dreaming about the pan fried squid!! This place is the definition of “do not judge a book by its cover. The building does not fit many people but that is part of its charm. The izakaya feels authentic the moment you step inside. Ramen is not the best I’ve had, however, that doesn’t mean the food is not incredible. It does feel a bit cramped in there, but this place is truly about the experience. The food is top notch. Can’t wait to come back for more
My favorite Japanese restaurant hand down!!!! Highly recommend Takoyaki, cucumber salad, and curry. The place is a little small but super cozy.Food: 5/5
I had high expectations for this place as someone who reads every review before going to a restaurant and everyone of them were met. We Party of 2 made it there 10-15 minutes before opening and there was already long line outside waiting for the place to open on a Saturday in the Texas heat. If you don't make it at least 30 minutes before opening, be prepared to wait an hour. I believe you can't make reservations for a party of 2 or less? so we took a chance. Luckily enough, we were the last 2 seated from the long line into the bar area. The ambience and atmosphere really felt like japan, with the Japanese-style seating behind the bar with peoples' shoes off, and the chill bar where you get to see the chefs cook. Although it's a small-quaint izakaya, I never felt rushed to eat finish my food and it didn't feel as crowded as it looked either, even with all our food in front of us. My favorite thing we got has to be the Karaage Chicken. As someone who would always get karaage chicken at Japanese restaurants, each piece of chicken here was just so juicy and tender. Kobe Beef Skewers were had very good flavor, but probably one of the items I wouldn't get due to price. Grilled Beef Tongue was better than I expected, as it was not too chewy and had a really great flavor. The Grilled Miso Salmon was perfectly cooked and had a strong, delicious miso flavor. The Tonkatsu Ramen was very reminiscent of Japan with the thin superior noodles, creamy, flavorful broth, and delicious chashu. All the sashimi was very fresh tasting. I loved everything I had and if I went back again, I would take advantage of the small plates and dishes because I believe you can't go wrong with any of them and most of them are not expensive at ALL definitely have to get the takoyaki and some dessert next time. This place is well worth the wait, the drive and the price. One of the best Izakayas in the DFW area and would go back again and again.
The food is so delicious here. Very authentic Japanese Izakaya restaurant. Will definitely be back.Food: 5/5
