History of Mr. Tablecloth and More....
The Martin family moved to Gatlinburg, Tennessee from Freeport in the Bahamas in April of 1990 and opened Mr. Tablecloth in a small location on the Parkway. Similar shops existed in the Caribbean so the Martins felt the theme could work in the resort city of Gatlinburg, a gateway city to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which has over 10 million visitors annually.
In the beginning, locating suppliers for tablecloths, doilies, runners and tabletop accessories was quite challenging. The internet and the World Wide Web were not household terms. A lot of time was spent travelling to, and exploring the various large trade shows, in New York City and Atlanta and developing relationships with potential suppliers. As the Martins learned the business and with the help of their committed sales associates who provide excellent customer service, Mr. Tablecloth became established as a premier shopping experience in Gatlinburg.
In 1998, Mr. Tablecloth moved to a new location in the center of town. The new store was over three times larger as was the need to expand product lines to fill the shelves - more home décor products were added. Handcrafted quilts, window treatments, placemats and napkins were introduced to the products carried. MR. Tablecloth started to carry the Heritage Lace products and in 1999, added the very popular Vera Bradley brand of quilted handbags. With the addition of these new products came the name change to "Mr. Tablecloth and More". In 2005, a second retail store was opened ten miles away in Pigeon Forge, bringing the same quality products and exceptional customer service to that growing tourist community.
Mr. Tablecloth and More is still a family owned and operated business. George and Ellice Martin's have retired and their son Gerry and Fiance Tina run the store now. Their friendly and efficient sales associates are always willing to help, interact with and even sometime entertain the exceptional customers and visitors to our store.
