Story

Robert J. Murphy and his wife, Betty, opened Murphy Funeral Home on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Virginia, in 1956. Together with their growing family of eight children, they worked to ensure that the funeral home’s quality and professional services were recognized within the community. Responding to the needs of the community, they opened another location in 1965 in Falls Church at 1102 West Broad Street. In 1974 they relocated the Arlington location to a larger home at 4510 Wilson Boulevard.

Murphy Funeral Home’s licensed funeral directors, funeral attendants and office staff continue to serve our families with the friendly, professional service that they have become accustomed to. We provide traditional services and cremation services to all those who entrust us with their loved ones. Our commitment to providing professional funeral services continues to respond to the changing needs of our community, and our staff continues to be guided by a quote from Mr. Murphy, our founder: "You don’t make yourself known. You make yourself worthy of being known."

Our Falls Church and Arlington staffs average nine years of service and strive each day to make ourselves worthy of each family’s confidence and trust. You can be assured of professional, dedicated service from Barry M. Murphy, our senior advisor and son of our founder; Falls Church manager Lawrence N. "Bud" Kline, with over 40 years of service; and Arlington manager Maripat Putnam Kline, with over 21 years of service.
Our funeral directors and staff live and work in Northern Virginia and, along with being good neighbors, we are affiliated with several organizations in our community, including the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Kiwi Organization, Lions Club, Demort Team, Sons of the American Revolution, Arlington County Chamber of Commerce and Falls Church Chamber of Commerce.
