Some Place to Eat www.mussoandfrank.com

Story

Since it first opened in 1919, The Musso & Frank Grill has been entwined with the history of Hollywood and the film industry. Early on, Charlie Chaplin dined at the restaurant so often that he was given his own booth, which still occupies the southwest corner of the restaurant. His party regularly included Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Rudolph Valentino. But they were not alone. Studio Execs and directors such as the Warner Brothers and Cecil B. DeMille discussed projects and contracts over long lunches at Musso's.

When prohibition ended in 1933, the owners wasted no time in opening a bar at Musso's. The stools quickly filled with an exclusive clientele who struck deals while sipping Musso's famous Martinis. It was not uncommon to see Greta Garbo discussing a new script with Gary Cooper, or Humphrey Bogart dining with Dashiell Hammett or Lauren Bacall. From Orson Wells to Jimmy Stewart, a star-studded cast filled the dining room and bar from the silent film era through the "Golden Age of Film" and beyond.

With its close proximity to both the Screenwriters Guild and Stanley Rose's Bookstore, Musso's was also a magnet for many of the greatest authors of the 20th century. Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, T.S. Elliot, Aldous Huxley, and Nathaneal West were all denizens of the red leather stools. According to legend, Raymond Chandler penned large portions of his novel "The Big Sleep" as he sipped Musso's cocktails. William Faulkner had a habit of mixing his own mint juleps behind the bar. The full legend of all the great authors tied to Musso's is a story only the walls can tell.

Through the years, Musso's has always been "The Place to be". From Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio to Charles Bukowski and Janis Joplin, Musso's has been and still is a gathering spot for artists, innovators and icons of all trades.

With its iconic status, the Musso & Frank Grill continues to be a family-owned business. Spanning four generations of tradition, the owners have served Hollywood world-class martinis and food along with a history that is unparalleled. Come join us for a martini lunch or be a part of history at the bar.

Any time of day, Musso's is still The Place to be.

What can you say about a classic old school Hollywood restaurant. Thursday is the only day you can get the pot pie and it's worth the trip. Served open face or upside down. Great wait staff great service great coffee. A must see for anyone from out of town or anyone that has not been there yet. Lunch time is really good because it is not all that crowded. Occasional movie stars bonus. Never know who you're going to sleep. Plenty of parking in the back easy rear entrance. Absolutely for Stars maybe five. Love it love it love it.

Great service. Pricey but the portions were large and delicious. My mom had the seafood salad which was huge and loaded with seafood! I had the clam pasta which had at least a dozen clams or more and the white wine sauce was amazing. Would recommend. Make sure you get reservations as it's always busy.

The best dirty martini I’ve ever had! Epic. My friend had the avocado salad and said it was perfect. We had the escargot and it was great. My fiancée’s steak was perfect. Love the old school atmosphere. Our waiter was quite chipper and informative. We will definitely be back!

Eating here was an integral part of an all-too-brief Hollywood experience. Everything we ate was phenomenal, but the real treat was the overall dining experience. We were treated like absolute royalty by every staff member we encountered - but our server Johnny really made Musso’s shine. This self-proclaimed docent of the restaurant gave us a fascinating historical perspective, which helped us to appreciate Musso’s to the fullest. I have never felt so welcomed or well taken care of. Easily the best service of my life. I told Johnny that he is the Michael Jordan of the service industry. He loves what he does and it absolutely shows. I worked for 10 years in food service and I know a real pro when I see one. Such a fun dinner experience!

I've eaten at lots of pricey restaurants. This place has the worst service and terrible food. Food was cold and steaks were raw. Scallops had a strong fishy smell indicating not very fresh. When you have to ask for iced tea 5 times....something is not right. So called manager put his hand on my husband's shoulder and kept patting him like he was a child when he complained. Got angry and stomped off when husband said please stop touching me. For the exorbitant prices they charge and I mean exorbitant....simply a travesty. Don't waste your hard earned money or valuable time. Was very disappointed after reading some of the great reviews.
