We did a virtual cake class for a spring themed birthday cake and had such fun! Linda and Chayla were amazing to work with. The cake kits were ‘over the top’ - full icing tubes generously sized, with decorating tips and spatula to keep! The cakes were delicious, too! I wholeheartedly recommend My Make Studio, and look forward to doing this again!
Went here for a little fun! They have so many different ways to decorate, with different colors and a very knowledgeable instructor! I learned a lot and made some pretty tasty cupcakes! Would love to take my niece back, as think it may be more ideal for a little older children who are into crafts.
Interesting experience! HOWEVER they are not teaching you how to really decorate. They just offer you materials and you have to figure it out yourself. Actually, as for me, I enjoy it more when I get to explore myself, but are you that type of a learner?
Cute idea, fun visit with a Groupon. No chocolate frosting, less guidance than expected, and would have been too expensive for me without the Groupon.
I called and asked about decorating cookies. The person on the phone said that I could do that. When I showed up later on, the young girl working was very scattered and said cookies weren't a thing they did. She offered 2 cupcakes, 12 cupcakes or full sized cakes. When I asked about doing something in between 2 and 12 cupcakes she said she could charge me for 12 and give me fewer ‍ So I suggested myself that I could purchase 2x 2 cupcake kits. That would be acceptable. I looked at the sample cupcakes which had blue and white icing for the winter themed ones. The kit I got was purple and white. Additionally, the icing was nothing to write home about. It is store-bought in a tube. I noticed some other tables had laminated pictures to reference while decorating. I asked about using one and was told that wasn't an option but that I could look up pictures myself online for inspiration. The printed instructions that were taped to the kit bag were very vague as well and indicated that I should come up with designs on my own. The whole point of a kit, imo, is that it's guided in some concrete capacity. Once I made up decorations of my own, I ate two of the cupcakes. They were ok. I got vanilla which tasted like they came from a boxed mix. Nothing very special about them. When it was time for me to leave, I asked for a box. The girl working offered 2 small single boxes or a 4x box for my 2 remaining cupcakes. Turns out they were out of both sizes, so I took them home in a giant cake box. I understand this shop is closing down permanently soon, so it is reasonable that they are low or out of some inventory. The person working there should be aware of these things before running around the whole shop, front to back, looking for things that don't exist. I know Denver is expensive, but with that, I expect quality. At effectively $6 per cupcake, I could have gotten much fancier ones for less at Whole Foods that I wouldn't have had to decorate myself. I would much rather support a small business than WF, especially woman-owned, but I hope that My Make Studio revamps their service if they reopen in-person.
I can't speak to the space or the experience, so simply speaking to the management. I made a reservation here for in-person "making" in January for today March 21. My mother is visiting for spring break; we intended to bring my two kids, too. I contacted the store early this morning just to confirm our 1pm reservation, and was told that the store shut on February 20th due to Covid, and that the store manager was supposed to reach out and contact people who had made reservations. That did not happen for us, at least. Disappointed, because we could have planned a different activity for today if we'd had more advance notice. Glad I called, because if we had just "showed up", wewould have been even MORE disappointed. The woman I was "chatting" with was apologetic, but I would have expected maybe even the offer of a discounted/reduced fee to come back when they were back in person.
Only giving this place two stars because the kids did enjoy the cupcake decorating. But the man helping us was unhelpful and rude. We didn’t tip to his satisfaction and so he refused to offer us a second more of his time. My daughter went up to thank him and was completely ignored her. We won’t go back.
Stopped by for an event and got to decorate a cupcake. I am no cupcake decoration artist by a long shot, but I had an absolute blast decorating it. Even better, that cupcake was freaking delicious! Definitely looking forward to bringing some friends by to check it out
Absolutely amazing and incredibly fun place for everyone! I have attending 2 birthday parties there with my grandchildren, and one time this past October to make Halloween treats for our annual family pumpkin carving. All of the colors, designs and toppings are there for any imagination. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. My Make Studio lets kids design and create masterpieces instead of playing video games or watching tv. And what was really fun for me was walking over to the Safeway and buying some Halloween skeleton necklaces for all the kids and buying extra scary bones, gummy bats and other candies to be different! The kids were giggling and laughing the entire time! And guess who cleans up? Not us; but actually, none of the kids made a mess. It's all done in an orderly fashion, and each time we visited the kids conducted themselves appropriately. That's because they're not running around wildly!. They're sitting down at tables creating art. Edible art. I love it here.
OMG, what an adorable shop and idea! I love their new space at the Edgewater Public Market. Linda and Chayla are AH-MAZING and really care about the experience for you and your kids! They have more sprinkles than you can ever imagine, not to mention frosting colors, cookie cutter shapes, design frosting tips, allllll the things. It's just a really fun time where you can make art and then eat it afterwards. Love it and would highly recommend! <3
