I used to frequent the silver spring location when I was a humble student way back when and enjoyed the food. I saw this location and decided to go on a whim and was not disappointed with the mouth melting soft buttery coco bread and the flaky, crispy juicy savory beef patty. The price went up significantly but the food was worth it. Keep it up y'all. One critic I would give them is to work on the costumer service. It almost feels like the customer is an annoyance to the staff and the emotion seems aloof.
Hubs and I went here for lunch and they did not disappoint. The beef patty was nice and flaky with seasoned beef that was not too spicy and not bland. The coco bread was the winner in that it was soft and buttery, not hard and factory made like the ones I have gotten from other nearby Caribbean establishments. Hubs enjoyed his oxtails as they were seasoned to perfection. However most importantly the customer service was nice and not the usual rude, arrogant and dismissive behavior that have become the norm for some Caribbean restaurants. I haven’t been here in years but the cleanliness, good customer service and tasty food has given me hope that I can get authentic Caribbean food in this area. keep it up Negril! Parking: Parking is a bit tight, it’s a big parking lot but you have to pack your patience because it’s a busy plaza with tight parking spaces.
I haven’t had Negril in quite sometime because I’ve been trying to get away from franchises. I must say the meal didn’t disappoint and they never have for me. I ordered the curry vegetable platter with rice and peas and cabbage, a ginger beer, coco bread, and curry shrimp patty. The curry patty and coco bread were fresh and tasty. Just what I was looking for to satisfy a craving. Vegetarian options: There were three different options, I chose curried vegetable dinner.
First off let me start by saying I am from Brooklyn New York and have been in the DC area for about 14 years so I know a little something about good Jamaican food. Hands down this is probably the best Jamaican food I've had in the DC area. Spiced just right, oxtails were falling off the bone and very delicious rice and peas. Not dried out at all. Will definitely be going back
Been going here on and off for years and I will say that the customer service has improved and it is very clean and organized on the inside. However, I was extremely disappointed with my food . I ordered the oxtail platter and a veggie patty. The patty was very doughy and practically empty with no flavor . The entire oxtail tray was bland , full of bones , and no seasoning was used not even salt . I had to season everything myself so I wouldn’t feel like I completely wasted my money . Probably won’t be coming back here.
I recently ordered the oxtail dinner and the escovitched fish sandwich at Negril the Jamaican Eatery. Overall, the flavors were spot on and worth a try. They package the items safely and neatly for delivery which is a plus! The oxtail dinner was good with the rice & peas and cabbage. However, I have to mention that the portion size was a bit disappointing considering the price of $21.00. More of a lunch portion with a dinner price. Although the oxtail dinner's portion size didn't quite hit the mark, the taste was good. As for the escovitched fish sandwich, it was really good and you can order it with the items on the side for delivery so you won’t have a soggy sandwich. Parking: Parking is plentiful but it is a nightmare in this shopping center.
Horrible!! Horrible!! Horrible! Do not waste your money here. This is not Jamaican food!!!!! I ordered brown stew chicken with rice and peas and it was so nasty. The chicken was white and gravy watery, the rice was over cooked and the cabbage plain with a nasty smell to it. Even the plantain was undercooked. Omg.
Food always the same:Good! Its the only place I go. Just wish they had a better vendor that supplies their desserts.Food: 5/5
I used to frequent this place for curry chicken way back in the day. This time I tried the oxtail entree w a side of plantains which I ordered over the phone, for a total of $26. All pick up & delivery orders are to be placed online via cell but I didn't get the link, so I called it in. Order took 10min, it was ready when I arrived. The portion is very small, the dish tasted like it was slow cooked in beef broth, and the oxtails are very small for $19. I got one regular sized thinly sliced oxtail little meat w few small tails that had no meat. The oxtail was served in a separate container in a very thin sauce w few sliced carrots. The other small container had rice & peas, & small scoop of cabbage. The plantains for $5 were very dry and had about 7 pieces. For $25 this wasn't an authentic flavored dish, and it was like a lunch sized portion. I remember now why I haven't been here in years. For those who have never had authentic Jamaican food, this is a good Americanized version.
Very organized, I was able to complete an online order via text sent after I selected the option via phone. It sent me directly to the Web page, which was easy to navigate. I ordered the Fricasse Chicken in light gravy, Escoveitched Red Snapper Vinger Based; there are two options tomato-based and vinger-based, and Oxtail dinner. Oxtails were great and had thin gravy, so it was not as heavy as traditional but packed with flavor. Love the fact that it was packed in a bowel so my rice and peas was not drenched and soggy. The chicken in its tomato-based gravy was very tender and the flavor was well infused into the meat. The Snapper was good as well. I got the vinegar and vegetables on the side, as stated before I like to control the saturation, especially with fried fish. The vinegar gave it a nice hit and I could change the flavor profile. Also, i forgot when ordering line when I arrived it was a contactless pick up. Food was placed in a warmer and I simply had to find my name, select the first initial of my last name and the cade opened. Really is a restaurant that is about quality and satisfaction. Just wish I could get some mac&cheese or greens as a side but it's good not to do too many menu items so I understand.
