Story

With years of experience practicing law throughout the Black Hills matched with his knowledge of the law and passion for helping others, Nate Nelson knows exactly what it takes to resolve a range of charges. As an attorney in both Federal and South Dakota State Courts, Nate knows what is at stake for each and every client. Nate knows the impact that a criminal charge, allegation, or investigation can have on a person’s life. With this mindset, Nate implements strategies during each step of the process with the goal to protect the livelihood, career, and future of each and every one of his clients.

Since his admittance to the South Dakota State Bar in 2012, Nate has worked full time as an attorney on hundreds of cases. His dedication to his clients, his knowledge of the law, and his understanding of the applications of the law is what sets him apart from other lawyers.

Nate’s passion, negotiation skills, and courtroom technique were cultivated even before he began to practice law. A member of the USD Law School’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Team as well as the USD Trial Team, Nate’s education included ample practical training as he competed across the state in mock negotiation and trial scenarios. Nate holds joint Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of South Dakota (USD), as well as a degree in Communications from the University of Idaho.
