A Museum of Ideas

Our Mission

We are a museum of ideas. While building upon our founding collections and values, we cultivate meaningful art and societal experiences, and foster new knowledge in the visual arts by encouraging interdisciplinary investigation. The Nevada Museum of Art serves as a cultural and educational resource for everyone.

Accreditation

The Nevada Museum of Art is the only accredited art museum in the state of Nevada. Recognized for following best practices as outlined by the American Association of Museums, the Museum is committed to continuous institutional improvement and change. With accreditation, the Museum joins the ranks of other significant institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Just 5% of all museums in the US earn AAM accreditation.

Definitely one of the less impressive art museums I’ve visited. The layout was fine, but there was no “direction,” if you will, through the museum. The art was random, and very little of it was striking. I had higher hopes for the state museum. Don’t get me wrong, my boyfriend and I enjoyed just walking around, observing, and reading. Like I said, it was just not impressive for me.

This is a gem in downtown Reno. First class art museum that exceeds expectations. We took our kids for the free activities day. We were blown away by the quality of programs the art exhibits and the overall architecture of the museum. We will be going back every month for sure. The volunteers and employees are super friendly too.

Great museum! There’s a very interesting Burning Man exhibition, with lots of information about its history and evolution, as well as a 20-minute film which basically sums up the exhibition. The rest of the museum was also very informative and well laid out and there was also a terrace on the top floor which gave great views over Reno. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the museum is very reasonably priced. A definite must-see when visiting Reno!

Best place ever to spend an afternoon. The museum and staff are wonderful, literally. Folks in the cafe are a bit dismissive and rude if you don't have the money air about you though. They've ignored us, in our weekend casual clothing, 3 times. I'm still longing for that cucumber sandwich I've wanted since becoming a member .... In 2004.

Great facility, nice staff. It seemed like they really beefed up security though. Always rotating exhibits. B of A card holders can get in free during the first week of each month.
