FIRST AND LAST TIME. BORDERLINE SCAM. This is my first negative review. Normally, I only review places I really love. If I have a bad experience, I just don't leave a review. Except this time was beyond bad. It felt like low-key extortion. Earlier tonight, I went to Next Door Lounge for my friend Brad's birthday around 11:30pm. I was completely sober and hadn't drank any alcohol. It seemed like a slow Saturday night and our server, Caryn (I think), came by to ask if I wanted to order anything the when I sat down. I declined politely. A little later, Brad mentioned getting a drink so I offered to buy him a birthday round. He said he liked a $14 cherry cocktail that had some absinthe in it, so I went our server and asked if it was possible to order the cocktail split as shared shots for the 8 people that were at our table. She said she would check, then confirmed it would cost me 3 cocktails split up. I was surprised, expecting 4, but I was good with it. I gave her my credit card and ordered.  Later, our server brings out 8 short rocks glasses about half full of red liquid, no ice. We toast to Brad's birthday and drink. I only take a sip and one of us had toasted with her own drink, leaving 2 unfinished shots on the table. After the shot, Brad ask what I had ordered and I tell him it was a shot of the cherry cocktail he wanted. Surprised, he says it looked different than the one he ordered earlier and didn't know they could make it as a shot.  I get the bill, except my card was charged for $112, instead of the expected $42!! They had charged me for 8 full cocktails. No big deal, I figure it was just rung up wrong. I let the server know and she apologizes, saying that the bartender rang it up and she'll fix it. A few minutes later, a new person comes with the bill. Presumably the bartender, he says he heard there was a bill problem. We talk, right at the table in front of everyone. Again no big deal, I politely explain that I explicitly asked if they could split the cocktail into 8 smaller shots for a toast and that the server confirmed that it would cost me 3 cocktails at $14 each. I said I expected to be charged for 3, maybe 4 cocktails split up, but definitely not over double that. After much multiple back and forth, he says the best he can do is charge me for 6 cocktails.  At this point, I'm pretty tired and upset, so I tell him to do what he wants but I will dispute any unauthorized charges and ask him to please talk to the server. Later he comes back and asks me to come to the register. I follow him over and he shows me that he's voiding the charge for $112. He says he's only going to charge me for 4 cocktails. It's not the 3 cocktails split that I ordered, but close enough. As we are talking, an older man with glasses and a bit of a belly walks over and tells us to hurry up and charge me already. The bartender guy looks flustered and charges my card for 4 cocktails for $56. I tip $14 because the server was nice and I didn't feel like this was her fault. The guy says thanks and says that many people come and try to not pay for what they ordered. I say again that I didn't order 8 full cocktails. At that moment, the older man rudely tells me again to please hurry up. He asks me if the unfinished drinks are still at the table. I say "Yes." And he replies, "Go finish them and get out!" I'm completely astounded. I ask him to clarify and he says "If you pay for 8 drinks you can stay but if you don't, I can't have people like you around here." I incredulously ask him if he's kicking me out because I wouldn't pay for drinks that I didn't order. He says to hurry up and leave. I tell him that he can talk to the server to confirm that she told me it would cost 3 cocktails for the round. He says he doesn't care. At that moment, the server comes by and I ask her, in front of him, to confirm what I ordered. She apologizes and says it was her fault and confirms that I only ordered 3 cocktails split up. The older man tells me again to get out. I'm pretty much done at this point, so I say fine and leave. I was sick of it.

Was contacted by Sam in regards to my request to host my boyfriend's 30th birthday party there. Later, I find out from the owner that Sam is just the person who answers the phone and emails and the owner arranges everything. My party of 25 people was packed into a space big enough for 14 people at most with two different tables that were separated from each other. The owner told me he had a lot of parties and he was over booked and had to fit big parties in small areas. I could not sympathize as it was not my responsibility to not overbook and I had contacted them over a month ago and they said they could arrange for the 25 people in my party. The food was good but the space issue was a big deal. He also would not let my display cake sit out due to code which doesn't allow a cake with candles to sit out for more than 10 min. It was a display cake and I had no problem with only putting the candles in right before he was going to blow them out. But he did not give me that option until I pushed further. In order to get what you want, you have to push for it. We eventually managed to snag a table from the first come first serve area which he didn't tell us about and we were able to use another reserved table as their reservation wasn't arriving until much later in the night (which he didn't tell us about until later either). He seems to be rather inexperienced when it comes to large reservations. This is not a place to host a birthday party or dinner for that matter.

I came to see my friend sing, along with an Grammy award winning artist followed up by 3 comedians. Great happy hour until 8pm for wine/apps (the times may change) and very nice rustic, elegant interior design. Easy parking on street. I parked on the NW corner of the intersection for free.
