I love the yoga classes at North Valley Aikikai. The teachers are knowledgeable, kind, and insightful. The studio is the perfect space for introspection and focus. The teacher/student ratio is perfect.

North Valley Aikikai is a great martial arts and fitness experience overall. If you ever wanted to practice martial arts without fear of overbearing egos or over commercialized dojos, then give NV Aikikai a visit. You won't be sorry.

I am a newer student of Aikikai and of this location. As a long time student of Karate it is a very different martial art and thus takes quite some time to get comfortable using your body in new ways. And getting in shape again. At 45years old that isnt easy but its doing wonders for me. Sensei Ramirez is very dedicated to her students. Its seems like we are part of her extended family. While studying both the physical arts of Aikikai I've also been exploring much about what is written about Aikikai and what the Founders' goals were. I've learned that Aikikai is as much philosophy as it is a martial art and I like that fact as well as agree with the goals of the philosophical side. From my point of view after speaking with Sensei Ramirez I've found her to be open, honest, and very much dedicated to helping her students, the surrounding community, and the world to become a better place. When I was looking for a new martial art to study (I am a former Karate student) I was looking for a traditional dojo with values and commitment to both the study of the art but as well as the philosophy and the traditions of the art as well. Both Iaido and Kyudo are both taught here as well as Aiki Jo and Aiki Ken and is encouraged for students (when ready) to deepen their understanding and mental discipline. I greatly appreciate this. Some of the things I like most about taking Aikikai here. I observed 2-3 classes of both beginners and intermediate students so I could be sure it was the right fit for me. And I was very happy I did. The classes are well taught, the students run the entire spectrum of outstanding to very new with every level in between. I like how the students were very respectful of each other, at the end of classes every student thanks every other student for helping teach them that day, and helps out with the cleaning of the dojo after ever class. I believe this helps create a community of respect and people who genuinely like each other instead of one of competition between each other or indifference which I've seen at many gym and/or modern style dojos. Additionally I like that newer students are always paired with senior students so they learn properly from the beginning not just the form, but the reasons why that form is important. Its easy to mimic a technique, but to perform it properly you need to understand it. The senior students are very helpful in passing on this knowlede. Even to a temporarily clumsy, but eager, old man. I'll get my grace back darnit! All in all, I'm glad I found this location, these students that have invited me into their community, and this teacher who is knowledgeable, skilled, and has room in her heart for all of her students.
