Very lovely park. There are nice play areas for the kids, walking trails, bird watching, and more! They have paddle boat rentals, which are tons of fun, and a help desk. The bathrooms are generally clean, and so are the camping sites. They have events every once in a while with food and entertainment. Overall, a really good place to go.

Generally family friendly, pretty clean. When they run out of adult-sized life vests, just hand out kids' vests and tell you that you have to wear them because "it's the law." When asked how you should fasten the life vest that's too small for you, the "ranger" (who takes himself VERY seriously) says, "I don't care that it doesn't work, just put it on." It would be nice to know that the staff cared as much about people's safety as they do law compliance.

Variety of trails to walk. Some trails take a little more effort, or take the trails which are flatter. You can walk down to the river and enjoy the relaxation of viewing it while sitting on the dock which also has a kayak launch section. Paddle boats are a reasonable cost and fun for all ages. Picnic tables are available for eating lunches or snacks.. Snacks and drinks can be purchased at the Rangers building while viewing interesting features inside as well. A great place to walk your dog too.

Sprawling park in south Chesapeake. Miles of hiking trails through deciduous forest. Lake and waterway that you can explore with rented canoes or pedal boats. Restrooms, campground, fishing, mini golf, playground, and horse trails.

I have frequented this park over the years as we live down the road. I have helped with many Eagle Scout projects here, fished, camped, hiked, canoed, kayaked, biked, and had a wedding reception here. The trails are swampy, really scenic, and full of nature. Boots are best. Fishing is a hit and a miss, but iv caught perch, bass, crappie, sunfish and bluegill myself... and heard of a few others and seen a few snakes. Its really rural and a good time but be prepared to ruff it a bit as it is no city trail!
