Really nice place with spots to sit and read, as well as a bar and restaurant. I did not use the latter two. Very clean, lots of options. Would love a larger “remainders” section, but I would certainly come again.

I really love this bookstore. The associates were so helpful & polite. Novel has authors come to talk about their books. So exciting to meet them & have your book autographed. Now I've been, it's the only bookstore I want to go to. That's how impressed I was. Thank you.

Great non-chain bookstore that reopened by passionate locals. Wonderful interior with plenty of space for events. They even have story time events for children. I recommend to everyone to check out novel. Support your local bookstore!

Novel opened in August of 2017 after a drought of independent book stores in Memphis. This is the former site of one of the most popular and beloved stores in Memphis, Davis-Kidd Booksellers. After they left a local group ran the store as "Booksellers," which was essentially the same store. The bookseller stores were wonderful but like other booksellers in the country were hurt by online sales. They tried to make up the difference with gift sales but eventually it was a losing proposition. But once again, local book lovers reopened the shop as "Novel" which looks a lot like booksellers but without the space devoted to gifts. They have the addition of a large events space and a soon to be opened restaurant to be run by a popular local restaurateur. Much of the same staff is back and while I admit to reading e-books and shopping on Amazon, I will by all of my book-books at Novel and encourage my friends to do the same.
