This place is the worst. My air conditioning didn't work the first year I lived there. It took 8 months to get a copy of our lease. We are paying more than most people there because they forgot to check our lease. We signed our move out papers and then they made us pay 900 for the whole month and they're saying we can't move out until next month. The worker in the office has no clue what's going on. The prices are way too high for what you get. We were told our apartment would have a washer dryer hook and it didn't. We got swindled into paying for renovations and the list goes on and on. Don't live there if you don't have to.

I lived there for six years. Luckily I lived on the front row on Stop 12 Rd in a ground level apt and there were only 4 entrances to other apts. Severe ball bug problems. Spiders weren't as bad as ball bugs but were bad. The stocked fishing pond is nothing but a huge mud hole that is only about 3 feet deep at its deepest point. No decent fish. Grounds absolutely covered with goose poop. Dog poop from people that don't clean up after their pets. Water leaks in a/c vent. Never fixed. Electric ceiling heat not good at all. Make sure patio door is closed and locked during dark hours. Never had any trouble with vehicle burglary but that had to do with being in the front I think. Had a friend over once and they were getting ready to tow car because one tire was on white parking line. Couldn't take dog for a walk after dark. I could but didn't feel safe at all. Don't know about the rental garages. I have a storage unit offsite but I heard many a story about garages. Dumpster always overflowing with garbage after new management took over. They eliminated the dumpster that was close to my apt so had to walk twice as far to dump trash and overflowing problem started. Antiquated fixtures and faucets. Huge apt with very little closet space. Mine was a one bedroom. It did have a decent fridge. Electric stove was horrible. Counter tops old and cracked then painted over to hide cracks. They were remodeling kitchens as people moved out. Not sure about bathrooms.Rent is very high and then they pound you with all utilities and apt insurance is mandatory. Trash fee's also. DO NOT GET BEHIND ON RENT that is a whole nother NIGHTMARE. They did replace 3 Windows in apt but left the old drafty patio doors as is. They informed new tenants that they couldn't landscape their own patio. Constant turnover with tenants and empty apts. Lovely flat white paint throughout apt. Once again that was changed as people moved out but long-term tenants had nothing coming. Laundry facilities were horrible. Their pool has no shallow end for kids. Long story short. RUN as fast as you can before they get their hooks in you. One word. "GHETTO". Totally amazed that I made it as long as I did. Good luck if you move here. I wouldn't recommend it to my in laws. 😉

PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL BEFORE MOVING TO THIS PROPERTY. I wish that I could leave LESS than one star for Oak Park Apartments because that is exactly what they deserve! I have not even lived at this property for a full year yet, and the amount of tenant-related and property management issues that I have faced is just UNACCEPTABLE. SPIDERS, ROACHES, if it has legs, you name it - it's there to live happily in your home. Not to mention the large geese population freely roaming the grounds (and leaving their feces ALL over the walk-ways) There are drug dealers located in the building closest to my cottage and I am left to deal with ALL of the in/out traffic associated with them (which leaves me no where to park). An older lady has been quite literally living and partaking in illegal activities by the dumpsters located directly behind my home and down the street..Where they find these people and allow them to live here, I HAVE NOT THE SLIGHTEST CLUE?! MY CAR HAS BEEN KEYED THREE TIMES NOW (see attached photos) by someone on the property in which I do not know whom or for what reason, as I keep to myself within my home for OBVIOUS reasons. I have brought the vandalism done to my vehicle to the attention of the staff here at the property in hopes that they would install a simple surveillance system for the parking lot (which is poorly lit at night) to reduce these issues, secure my safety as their tenant, and to ensure that this incident would not happen again as I feel EXTREMELY unsafe on the grounds here at Oak Park Apartments. I am unable to feel safe even leaving my vehicle out in the open, because of these re-occurring incidents done to my personal property. Oak Park claimed that there was simply nothing they could do to provide me with ANY assurance of my safety here on their property OR guarantee me that this incident would NOT happen again. I just CANNOT even believe a property management company would take a tenants safety or security of their personal belongings as anything BUT a top priority. BUT WAIT IT GETS EVEN BETTER!! I have been parking my MINI not even 10 feet from my home in a parking spot located directly beside the dumpster area that I was told I was allowed to park in at the signing of my lease agreement in December of 2016 (as the amount of parking is VERY limited) and yesterday (August of 2017 - 8 MONTHS LATER) I received notice that I am no longer able to park my vehicle in this spot as it is apparently prohibiting the dumpster company from properly reaching the dumpster, and is blocking walk-ways for tenants.. I am now walking MORE than 30 feet AT NIGHT, BASICALLY IN THE COMPLETE DARK TO GET TO MY COTTAGE. I don't understand how I can park my vehicle in this place for 8 months and no one has any issues up until I mention that my car is getting keyed? I find it quite humorous, actually. After everything I have witnessed on these grounds and the other tenants freely keying my vehicle with no repercussions, the property mgmt company now wants me to park even further away from my residence. I don't even feel comfortable leaving my house after I get home from work each day. They are taking the safety of myself, as their tenant EXTREMELY lightly. The property itself is beautiful, but DO NOT BE FOOLED. I would think that they would respect the tenants that take care of their property enough to do anything and everything possible to provide each tenant with safety, but it is in fact the exact opposite. I sincerely hope that this review gets out to the right people as a forewarning that this property is a complete JOKE. DO NOT - I REPEAT - DO NOT COME TO THIS PROPERTY IN HOPES OF FINDING A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE! I unfortunately had to find this out the hard way. To say that I cannot wait for my lease agreement to end and to leave this property forever would be a COMPLETE understatement. Best of luck to future tenants that get trapped here like I did!

The apartment complex is amazing in terms of what you receive for what you pay. The rent is more than reasonable for the amount of square footage you recieve. The buildings are old but they have a nice quaint charm to them. The property is very pet friendly. If you have a dog they have six doggy stations stocked with baggies for taking care of thier poop. I have not had any problem with management or maintenance in the 1.5 years of living there (as of this writing). When I have made a maintenance request - which has happened only one time - maintenance responded in less than 24 hours. I am amazed at all the complaints others have posted about this complex. People use some common sense... 1. This property has a decent sized lake. That is going to attract migratory waterfowl such as ducks and geese. If you don't want to deal with them then go live somewhere that doesn't have a lake. 2. The pest problem of fleas is caused by the feral cat colonies. If those of you living at the apartment would stop leaving food and shelters out for them then they would go away. Once the freal cat are gone the flea issue will diminish. 3. The apartment complex is aware of the flea issue. That is why they are proactive in spraying around the building. 4. If you don't want your car towed away (lady in the cottage) then don't park in a no parking zone. 5. This is an old apartment complex - I am suprised people cannot tell that based on the architecture style.
