Talk about home away from home, OlaTee is the place... The food is great, their services are topnotch, the environment is beautiful, and the atmosphere very friendly. OlaTee is an African restaurant in Spring Tx, where you can dine-in, take away, they do deliveries too. I hanged out there with a couple of friends and it was a great experience. Their cuisine are cost friendly too. You should try it Kid-friendliness: This place, is kid friendly too.
I loved the food so much, the customer service was great, and the food was given to us in a timely manner. I got the okra stew and my Mom got the egusi! We literally have no complaints. You can even purchase the meal prep and take it home to warm your self.
I was really excited to try this place considering I get tired of the same ole same old restaurant options in the area. So I ordered a few things for take out thinking I could eat some tonight and something else for lunch tomorrow. I ordered the goat pepper soup, the jollof rice and the fried rice b/c I like rice. Unfortunately, I will not be having anything to eat tomorrow for lunch and must admit, I’ve very disappointed and here’s why… it doesn’t matter what type of rice dish you’re making, if the rice is not cooked properly, the dish is ruined. The jollof rice seem to have some pretty decent flavor but I just couldn’t get over the al dente rice. And I say al dente considerably b/c some of that rice was just out right crunchy. Absolutely ruined what could have been a decent bowl of rice and chicken. Now the fried rice? Forget about it. It’s not worth ordering in my opinion b/c again, improperly cooked rice and hardly any flavor at all. I did manage to find two lil shrimps in the bowl but I didn’t eat them because rice probably sucked all of the moisture out of the shrimp. After trying several spoonfuls, I came to the conclusion that they must be using some kind of parboiled rice or instant rice or something. There was absolutely no fluff to this rice at all. Now to the soup… the goat pepper soup. Again, the soup broth was absolutely phenomenal. I’d love to just order cups of broth with no goat b/c I hate to say it but I’m currently picking my teeth right now of goat meat b/c it was simply too tough. The meat was not tender at all and that’s what I’ve come to love about properly cooked goat… the flavor or course and the tenderness. I really wanted to give this place more start and I’m being nice with the 3. The plantains were better than a lot of places I had been and the chicken legs in the rice were pretty good. I will come back and try some other dishes with out rice but this is it for now.
This was my first time ever trying African cuisine and it was very delicious! The owner and staff were very friendly. I truly felt welcomed. I ordered the Jollof rice and ordered some beef meatpies to go. I will definitely return on my next visit. Thank you again Olatee Cafe
I tried the egusi soup and fufu today for the first time. It was pretty good. It's not the most delicious thing that I've ever eaten, but it's not bad either. I got it with the cow skin and tripe meat. The cow skin was ok, but I didn't really care for the texture of the tripe, but it didn't have a bad flavor. The egusi flavor reminded me of cornbread dressing you have around the holidays. Cornbread dressing with the giblet gravy is how I would describe the flavor of the egusi from this cafe. I may try it again.
My first time trying any type of African cuisine and I loved it! I’m a big fan of spicy food and the Jolof rice with chicken was amazing. We also tried the Egusi stew and it was great. It has a smoky savory flavor that was exciting and new. The staff is super friendly and I felt like I was eating at a friends house. They gave us some sweet cracker type snacks to try and also some pastries sort of like a fried donut while we waited. I highly recommend!
The owner, Ola, explained the cuisine and allowed us to sample a few things. Fish is delicious take care to notice bones. Lots of flavor .
It was my first time in Houston and I had heard a lot of good things about the local Nigerian food scene. OlaTee did not disappoint. The food was very tasty. I got side dishes of their coconut rice, fried rice, beans porridge, beef and Turkey. The food portions were really good, the staff were friendly and attentive, the place was clean and the overall ambience was great. I definitely look forward to eating here again on my next trip to Houston.
Omggg!!! I don’t have to drive to the other side of town for good Nigerian food!!! Turn up! Something told me to look a bit closer for places near me that may serve jollof and egusi soup my favorites and I’m so glad I found this cafe! I ordered off GrubHub and the food was delivered piping hot and ready to eat! Love the presentation and the containers that the food are delivered in. Let’s get on these flavors…yesssss…just the right amount of spice and flavor balance! That egusi and swallow had me rubbing my feet together and rocking back & forth. Lol! It’s best when you eat it with your hand…makes me feel comforted and accomplished. The jollof rice was fantastic…the right blend of peppers and other spices…I couldn’t stop eating it. If you’re in the area or around the area, see if they deliver to you…top notch!
The food was a bit over priced compared to back home in Dallas but it tasted great! I wish I had known that tripe was in the egusi soup that was my only dislike. Again! Money wasn’t the issue cleared I paid for it.
