This restaurant was once renowned for its Sunday brunches, but our recent visit left us with a rather mediocre impression. It used to be bustling, but now it feels like it's on the decline. To my astonishment, neither of the two restrooms had changing tables for babies. The food was just passable. In summary, we were taken aback by the significant deterioration over the years, and it's quite regrettable.
Food was well prepared and presented. Sandwiches are very large and full of meat! Fries were crispy and not greasy.Food: 5/5
The place is big and very nicely done. The interiors are mostly wood and a few pretty furniture pieces can be seen around. The food was way below average and hence wont be visiting this place againFood: 3/5
Great location, just off Georgia Street. Close to everything. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. It was a Saturday night and a night of a big football game so it may have been busier than usual. But definitely recommend if in the area. Very cozy.Food: 5/5
Encompassing 9,000 square feet and moving to the current establishment in 1990, Old Man Rafferty's, located on Albany Street, not far from the stately Old Queens campus of Rutgers, provides a comfortable and convenient stop for students and visiting families in New Brunswick. Upon entering as a first-timer to this location, it’s a casual bar and restaurant where the warm and relaxed atmosphere was perfect for lunch, which my friend and I had today. The interior reminds us of a country inn with a variety of different settings: a bar area, a large comfortable dining room with some semi-private areas for small parties, and outdoor seating in a garden setting when the weather allows, with contemporary music playing at just the right volume. The menu is very broad and has a lot of comfort food dishes, including some very good vegetarian options. If you're vegan or gluten-free, you should advise your server or contact the restaurant ahead of time. We ordered the all-day hand-held sandwiches: Prime Rib French Dip with House-made au jus, crispy fries, coleslaw, and Grilled Chicken on gluten-free bread, accompanied by lettuce, tomato, pickle, cheese, and steamed broccoli. They were certainly freshly prepared and tasty, huge portions, but not particularly over-the-top. Our server was Daniel, and the service was just what you'd want. It was a regular check-in, but not intrusive or pushy. As an added feature to this restaurant, there is a small gourmet deli/bakery featuring takeout sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, cookies, and desserts. It also has a small retail area with dry pastas and jarred sauces. Now I know why Old Man Rafferty’s seems to be one of the locals favorite places, which I can recommend.
Friendly service, many choices to satisfy everyone on your group, nice atmosphere. Dim sum dumplings weren’t good. Edges way too crispy as if heated up multiple times. Otherwise, everything else was tasty.
Nice cozy place for a drink off George street. The ribs are the only thing I’d go back for. The cheeseburger sliders are from frozen patties I thought a place like this would have better sliders, but I digress. The steak we asked for it medium rare it came well done, we sent it back. It came back medium well decided to keep it anyway. Not the best quality steak. I had two drinks and didn’t feel or taste liquor good flavors tho.
I have been going to OMR’s for over 20 years. Today I ordered a Cobb Salad at 11:22am for a pickup at noon which I was assured would be ready. I then had to wait until 12:12 for my order and when I got back to the office my salad was made with spinach instead of romaine lettuce. Very disappointed customer. Btw when I ordered I gave my name and it was still missed spelled on the receipt.
The food was very good. Our party had a variety of different entrees. The ribeye was very good, but it was a very thin cut of meat. The chicken pot pie bowl was very hot, creamy, and filling. The sirloin looked very good and seemed to be cooked to perfection. The Hot Beef special was enormous and was amazing. The ravioli dinner was a nice size and was stuffed and topped with a lot of cheese. The open faced steak sandwich was also very good. The coffee after dinner was strong and fresh, and the Jr. Cheesecake, Apple Pie, and Dark Side of the Moon desserts were enjoyable for all who tried them. Our service was good, but it was lacking on refills and attentiveness, but not terrible. The overall vibe was comfortable, dark, but well lit over each table. The bathrooms do need some serious attention on a more regular basis.
My first visit to New Brunswick, I picked this restaurant for brunch from the Great reviews. I was happy from the moment I walked in. Great atmosphere and welcoming staff. The menu had so many great dishes to choose from- I wanted to try every thing. Every thing we did order was great. Left with food to go. Hey portions of Great flavor. I recommend.
