Story

One Mercantile, a small production, fair trade, and vintage reproduction home goods store, is Andy and Abby’s biggest venture together.

Their shared interest in all things vintage lead them to travels around New England to antique, junk, vintage and second-hand stores alike to find exceptional and remarkable goods. With a keen eye for well made and high quality items, and a desire to share their love of well crafted goods, the couple began to consider opening a retail store. They began investigating small production and fair-trade companies that were producing new products that matched their aesthetic and sensibilities.

A large space, in much need of a face lift, was located in their hometown of Great Barrington. The grand room had been a community second hand store for 25 years whose interior still sported the 1960’s wallpaper and faux wood paneling of it’s last renovation. Abby and Andy set to work uncovering and revealing the high beamed ceilings and exposing the beautiful original brick walls, creating a raw but refined vintage industrial interior to house their goods.

The renovation is near completion, the stock has begun to arrive, and their dream is almost a reality. Grand opening of One Mercantile is expected (fingers crossed) in late June of 2013.
