Campground is nestled within a very beautiful setting that has several waterfalls that provide an awesome display of peace and serenity. Various campsites allow you to park alongside and some require you to carry your gear up from the pathway. The campsite has no host and requires groups who have reserved campsites to sign in on a spiral notebook located in a mailbox. There is only non-potable water available on a nearby trailer reservoir. The camp has 2 bathroom structures that are very well maintained and even contain stick-on scented fragrance devices inside to cancel out any smells. Was a very pleasurable experience using the facilities and definitely recommend any respectable camper to visit this campsite.

Love this spot!! Great spot to start your backpacking trip into the wilderness area of Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park.. Not many camp spots so Im sure you need to probably book in advance..

My first time here recently was pretty spectacular. I had looked this place up for a last minute trip and luckily got the last spot for the time window that was decided. The views were even more awesome as you get more and more deeper into the John Muir Wilderness. It was crazy for me to see snowpack still evident at peaks where alpine lakes were present in the middle of summer. There are lots of patches of different colored wildflowers spread throughout the main trail up to Kearsarge Pass. I also saw at the main campsite bathrooms that the area has been having high bear activity due to poor food storage. Luckily I didn't see any. The first day we pulled up my dad and I saw that there is an honor system where if you forget to buy firewood you can bring money to pay for it directly near the campsite "host" mailbox for $7 each. What was also pretty sweet was the fact that near the campsite there was a waterfall that was soothing to fall asleep to. Highly recommend this campsite to anyone that are newcomers or regulars!

Onion valley is at the trailhead to many wilderness trails - the camp sites are smaller - but am amazing camp area!!! Fall colors - fishing in the area - millions of trails to hike - one of my favorites.!!!

Completely snowed out last spring "May". But had a great time in the snow of the parking lot. If you are staying in Independence it a "must see!'
