As staff for an Orange County business lawyer, I was tasked with getting a critical legal question answered like NOW! My boss, a business attorney, was working with a possible client who's upcoming business opportunity is to be compensated as a contract marketing specialist to bring potential lessors for a specific prime retail/commercial property location. This possible new client came to us thinking she wanted a simple, but attorney-drafted finders fee agreement. The details of the marketing person duties and expected results were very specific. But my boss was concerned. No matter what it's called, marketing, selling, soliciting, the fundamentals were that this was real estate sales & leasing and may need to be licensed. If that were the case, based on the specifics, our client could be refused her "fee, commission, bonus" by the court as she has no standing. Can a contract marketing person (a person somewhere in marketing process) of locating a very specific, hard-to-find person or company (a lessee) end up with a finders fee (i.e. "a commission") in California without having a California Real Estate Sales license or be a licensed broker? We needed a quick answer to that threshold question and I reached out to Edwin Fahlen. Though he said his phones were busy and a client had showed up early, he took a few minutes to provide us some real, actionable, legal advice we needed, since his website suggests that he offers a no charge telephone initial consultation. In my case, he provided the answer at no charge. We'd gladly pay. Given a more complex Real Estate issue next time, Edwin will get our business. He's the real deal. I called Edwin because his website is easy to find and the already-mentioned no charge telephone consultations (within reason I suspect...). As staff for a cross-town law firm, he took his valuable time to give a law office he'd never heard of a hand. Thank you Edwin.

I referred a lady friend I often run into at my local Starbucks and her husband who had done the good deed of co-signing on a mortgage loan for a brother-in-law and, of course, as go all good deeds, the home went into foreclosure and was sold. They were anxious that the mortgage lender would be coming after them for money and any shortfall. I referred my coffee drinking buddy to Edwin Fahlen, an Orange County Real Estate attorney I've known for several years. I know he is a good egg and, will with a smile in his voice, always answer real estate legal questions as best as he can with no expectation of getting a client out of the deal. I am at Starbucks today, and my friend stopped by to tell me that Edwin, as I predicted, answered her and her husband's anxious questions by phone and they were grateful to me for the referral. I am grateful that there is a local R.E. attorney I can recommend that the recommendation won't come back to make me look bad or the fool. Thanks Ed!

I was helping my young adult daughter who was having issues with a BIG residential management company in Orange County. Her complex is in Irvine. I searched for a real estate attorney and found attorney Edwin Fahlen. He answers his own phone, and true to the Google profile he answered after hours --- what I would consider normal lawyer hours. I needed to know what to do, if my baby was in the right or wrong trying to get her unit repaired. Edwin took all the time in the world as if I was a paying client to offer me detailed advice without charging me or tricking me into an expensive consultation. He is very proper and legal-like like a professor I remember, but he had the answers I needed on the tip of his tongue. He also gave me two version of advice which I was grateful for. The strictly "legal" advice, and the more-tempered "practical" advice he suggested we try first. His practical advise was to take a softer approach in persuading the management company to once and for all solve in such a manner so my daughter would note be "asked" to leave her beautiful apartment complex by becoming labeled as a troublesome 'problem tenant.' This happened a few weeks back and I want to publicly thank Mr. Fahlen now, since I just learned that all is well back in California. My baby's apartment repairs were made, No legal threats were needed; no hard feeling or 'problem tenant' profile resulted since we took Ed's advice as to how to better approach the huge complex's management. Thanks again!
