"The Best Coffee in Town"

Whether you want a breakfast burrito before you hit the waves, a fresh smoothie or a healthy sandwich, we have it all!

Story

Orange Inn was first established in 1931, located on the coast of the Irvine Ranch between Laguna Beach and Newport Beach.

Originally a refreshment stop for the Irvine Ranch cowboys and field hands, it became an oasis for travelers on the old two-lane road that would become Pacific Coast Highway. Fresh, hand-squeezed orange juice was served to thirsty travelers. The Orange Inn became home of the “Original Smoothie™” and the “California Date Shake™” and a favorite stop for beach enthusiasts who enjoyed the pristine beaches, excellent diving and great waves on the last undeveloped coastal stretch of the Irvine Ranch. The menu grew to include albacore and avocado sandwiches and was named “one of the ten best roadside restaurants in America” by Esquire magazine.

The OI was a fixture on Pacific Coast Highway for over fifty years. When the wide-open spaces gave way to development in 1986, the Orange Inn moved to Laguna Beach where it remains today; carrying on the rich tradition so warmly remembered and still operated by your hosts John and Kathy Bodrero.

"Our cafe is sure to please with the best coffee and breakfast in town, voted by Sunset Magazine! Come by to see why we are voted 'one of the ten best roadside restaurants in America' by Esquire magazine. You can try our famous California Date Shake and we are home of The Original Smoothie. Have you tried those amazing acai bowls? Well, we have them! We have been a staple in the community for over 80 years and have been organic since before it was cool. Our orange juice is freshly squeezed and used in our delicious bakery items. We also have vegan and vegetarian options! We hope to see you soon!"

We got the steak breakfast burrito and the breakfast burger. The burrito was exactly what you expect, thick cuts of steak with some egg mixed in. The burger was a little disappointing as it is just a sandwich, it has no hamburger in it, but as a sandwich it was delicious. We also got the pumpkin muffin and the bran muffin, unfortunately the pumpkin was a bit dry and flavorless, the bran was actually slightly moist and quite sweet.
I’d travel halfway across the country for the O.I. Breakfast Sandwich! Who knew that something so simple could be done with such perfection to the point where it’s unbelievably delicious. I always like to get my sandwich on sourdough, which they do a great job with lightly toasting. The eggs are also perfectly cooked with cheese on top. The sand which also comes with tortilla chip, a delicious little side of Pico de Gallo, and an orange slice. And let me tell you… don’t underestimate the wonderful news of that orange slice at the end of your meal. Parking: Not a lot of parking at the location itself, but Laguna Beach is full of street parking that’s a short walk away.
Steak burrito was great. The Orange Inn Smoothie was just okay. We were sad that they still have the inside of the inn closed for indoor dining. We couldn’t find any where to comfortably sit, except for a bench and that was awkward for eating. So it’s definitely a take and go place.
I'm sad we live so far away because if not I'd come here all the time! The owner John is very friendly and personable. We came after seeing him and the restaurant featured on an old episode of California's Gold. It definitely looked like a treasure and we were really excited to try it and we were not disappointed. My chorizo breakfast burrito was the best I've ever had, huge!! The Pico salsa on the side with the chips has such a unique delicious flavor. My husband had the grilled chicken burger that comes with avocado and sprouts and he enjoyed it. We also ordered an orange muffin Which had like a crust on the outside and then a soft flavorful crumb inside, the orange flavor was strong made with their fresh orange juice and it was not overly sweet. They also have fresh juice We got an orange and guava one which was tropical and delicious. Perfect with the muffin. Come try it out, we will be back!!
Excellent food, fresh and delicious. We had the breakfast burrito, oi breakfast sandwich , oi smoothie, fresh oj. Their coffee was ok. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was they only do window service, you can order online which is nice when you are at the beach.Food: 5/5
Very cute owner operated space, this is NOT a Starbucks! I had the veggie omelette, it was very fresh, just the right mix of veggies and eggsFood: 5/5
There was only order food for take out available the day we went to eat inside dining was closed, but the food was amazing and such a great price! We loved the veggie omelet. It came with red potatoes, an orange slice and toast. It was a lot of food. We also got a side order of French Toast and it, too, was delicious! It was cooked perfectly ! We would definitely eat here again! Highly recommend!!
Moved to the area recently and was walking around exploring Laguna beach. Stopped here for a sandwich to go. I ordered a chicken sandwich, and a banana bread. It came out promptly in a to go container with a side of pickles, an orange slice, some tortilla chips and a packet of hot sauce. The sandwich came in a couple of pieces of hearty bread, it was a little dry for my taste, I would have liked more sauce, but that's just me. The banana bread had nuts and the first bite was delicious. It was a little over baked and dry, but it had a nice slightly caramelized crust and it was still good. They are known for their juices and coffee maybe? I'll have to stop by again to try other things on the menu.
Charming place. Very interesting history of being California's first juice bar, originally serving travelers along the PCH fresh orange juice. Inside was fully closed to staff only. So only take out orders. Main reason I can only give 4-stars. Omelettes cool down walking back to hotel.Food: 4/5
The turkey club with cheese on sourdough is great! Adding cheese is a but expensive, but worth it. Currently it is to go only which was fine for us but did not get to feel out the vibe. The cinnamon roll can be passed on, icing was just powder sugar drizzle and it’s thin and harder so eaten even warmed up was tough. But the sandwiches are good for a breach picnic!
