A small and engaging bookstore, I found it by accident when a fire near Orinda prompted me to exit Hwy 24. The sight of an actual living bookstore made my heart race. All bookstores within 20 miles of my neighborhood (Martinez) had become extinct. The cashier helped me find an unexpected treasure, The Warmth of Other Suns by S. Wilkerson about the Great Migration out of the South to the Northern cities. It turned out to be moving, tragic and gave me a deep perspective into the sheer meanness that caused the exodus. The book was laced with poetry of Langston Hughes and the evocative prose of Baldwin. All this because of a fire near Highway 24. Thank you Orinda Books! Regards, Mory

Friendly, quaint small town book store with a good selection of current books. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and the store has plenty of seating areas to browse the books.

What a gem this place is! Great staff, beautiful airy lighted space and of course a wonderful books to choose from.

Very helpful staff. Many times their personal recommendations have helped me select a book I haven't read as a gift for a friend or family member. I am a sixth grade teacher, and I also rely on their recommendations to help me select books for my classroom.
