About

Our team of surgeons and medical professionals excel in the practice of orthopaedics - treating diseases, disorders and injuries of the muscles, bones and joints.

Story

Orthopaedic Associates of St. Augustine was formed when Doctors James Grimes and Albert Volk joined their practices at Flagler Hospital in 1999. Dr. Grimes is the Chairman for the Department of Orthopaedics at Flagler Hospital and specializes in sports medicine and joint surgery. Dr. Volk specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

With the addition of Dr. Kurtis Hort, who specializes in disorders of the foot and ankle, they opened their new state-of-the-art facility in September of 2005. Soon afterwards they were joined by Dr. Brian Haycook, an orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in disorders of the neck and back.

Dr. John Stark, whose expertise is hand surgery, joined Orthopaedic Associates of St. Augustine in 2006. In 2009 the team of surgeons expanded to include Dr. Sina Kasraeian, who in addition to arthroscopy specializes in sports medicine as well. The most recent addition is Dr. Casey McClone, a Primary Care Sports Medicine doctor. Rounding out the team is podiatrist Dr. Beth Pearce who is able to treat conditions of the foot for patients of all ages.

The practice continues to expand and opened an additional office in northern St. Johns County conveniently located on County Road 210. The group continues to bring on additional doctors and services in order to provide multi-specialty orthopaedic care for the entire body. The expansion of the practice allows us to better meet the growing needs of our patients.

I was unhappy with my doctor and one of the office staff. Member. Unable to receive MRI and report , from office. I had to wait for those items to be sent to me. Which take 10 days., to receive in the mail. The office staff member(long brown wave hair and wear reading glasses). Check over the paperwork to make sure ,the form was filled out correctly. ( I did inform the office staff .was requesting both MRI and report. )Felt that my behavior was unnecessary. Was sure to tell me that. When receiving my MRI in the mail. The report was not included. I went back in the office, to ask why. The same office person, told me that the right box was not checked. To make a long story, short. I never received the paperwork. When calling the office to find out why. The office personally did not submit the paperwork. The doctor told me that I had problems with my rotator cuff . After the MRI. I was told it was not my rotator cuff. But to do with wrist.. that the doctor wanted me to see another doctor in the practice. Which I didn't. I was there for a fatty tissue lump in my shoulder. The doctor told me that he would ,not remove it for another year. I call twice , telling the nurse I was in pain. That the injection was not working. I was told to rest my shoulder. Give the injection, two weeks. I never once ask for pain killers. Still in pain , three weeks later. I am going to a different doctor

Absolutely livid! My experience today was the worst I have ever experienced with any healthcare professional! I waited over an hour for my appointment because the PA was running behind. They took x-rays immediately without even talking to me about my problem. Then the nurse came in, didn't even acknowledge my presence or introduce herself. She asked 2 or 3 simple questions that you could find on the history I filled out, then she left and said the PA would be in shortly. PA came in about 20 minutes later. He looked at my x-rays, asked about my pain and requested to see my MRI. He said he wanted Dr. Stark to look at me. Again, I waited. This time, over 35 minutes. Dr. Stark came in and did the same thing as the PA but this time suggested the MRI was incorrect and suggested I just cope with the pain. He said I could buy a wrist brace and he would give me a Rx for an anti-inflammatory. He works with a physical therapy practice above his office and didn't even suggest it! I asked for a referral to the hand therapist but he said, "I don't know how much she can actually help you." but eventually gave it to me. I knew that there wasn't really anything the surgeon could do for me and all I wanted was referral to physical therapy. Having to ask permission from one doctor to see another doctor is absolutely unacceptable. I wasted 3 hours of my time and who knows how much money, only to have to ask to see someone that can actually help me! The only person who apologized to me for the time wasted was the very nice receptionist... everyone else just didn't care and figured that I was OK with it! SO MAD. This is the exact reason why Physical Therapists need direct access. I should never have had to go to here but I had to in order to see a physical therapist. Absolutely stupid!

Visited Dr. Hort due to pain in the ball of my foot. He provided cortisone injections and asked that I come back for a follow-up. The first follow-up was cancelled the day of the appointment. The next appointment, I received a call the day of stating they needed me to come earlier due to his schedule. The cortisone injections provided no relief, so I obliged the last minute scheduling changes hopeful he would provide alternatives during the follow-up appointment. The follow-up appointment was literally 7 minutes. When I told him the injections did not work, he said could perform surgery or I can see Dr. Pierce. I explained that I waited weeks to see him to determine if he could recommend alternatives such as special shoes or orthotics. He simply responded that he performs surgery and orthitics are not in his wheelhouse. If he would have explained this in my first visit, I would have been fine and immediately scheduled the next appointment with Dr. Pierce. But, to be inconvenienced multiple times (I realize he's a physician but my time is important too) and charged for this 7 minute "welp, I can't help you, go see my colleague" visit feels a bit like a scam. I selected this practice because it's close to my home, but the criteria for my next physican will be one who is actually interested in helping his/her patients.

Scam artists. Charged me $330 for a soft cast you can buy for $35 online. BE CAREFUL. Re: You can respond to negative reviews online but not my emails or letters. FYI It was the same exact cast, same brand.

Beth Pearce is a bad Doctor. Won't return my totally inappropriate orthotics. She appears to be the sweating lady ever when she is taking your money, but if u have a problem, she refuses to even see you!! I went to P and O orthotics on Old Moltrie Rd. They said the orthdic she gave me , off the shelf will not work for my CMT disease! They are totally inappropriate for my condition!
