Founded in 1868, Our Lady of the Pillar was the second Catholic parish founded in San Mateo County and still remains the largest.
Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church was established in 1868 in Spanish Town, now called Half Moon Bay. We were the second parish founded in San Mateo County and remain the largest (approximately 500 square miles) with boundaries extending from San Pedro Mountains on the north; Santa Cruz County on the south; Skyline Boulevard on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. To better serve this large geographic region, we also have two missions churches, including, St. Anthony’s Church in Pescadero, built in 1868 and Our Lady of Refuge in La Honda, officially established in 1883.
We look forward to meeting those who are new to the area as well as those who live here and would like to learn more about the Catholic Church. We have youth and adult formation classes for those still learning about the Church, as well as ongoing adult classes led by our parish priest. All are welcome!
