It’s a fun way to explore native fusion cuisine with beautifully presented dishes that are both delicious and unique. The texture of the bison meat wasn’t quite my favorite, as I found it a bit bland. However, the scallops were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The atmosphere is fantastic, especially with the option to dine on their lovely outdoor patio. The service is warm and welcoming, making the entire experience even more enjoyable.
Everything was superb! The service was excellent, the atmosphere was comfortable, trendy, and subtle. The food was worth every penny. I had tea, corn chowder, smoked trout bean dip, and wild rice porridge for dessert. If I lived in Minneapolis I would be back frequently to try everything! The total bill was $58.Food: 5/5
Excellent food, atmosphere and staff!!! It was great to try a variety of Native American foods and learn a bit about them. HIGHLY recommend! My favorites were the carrot tartare, roast squash, turkey taco, and the stuffed pumpkin. The pepita milk latte was excellent too! The only miss was the berry cobbler dessert…it had a bitter taste and wasn’t sweet enough.
The food here is unique and delicious! The menu only uses ingredients indigenous to North America and commonly used by the Sioux. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. I wish I could have tried more things on the menu. My favorite things were the desserts and the trout and beans in duck fat. Their drinks were also very unique and the teas we had were very earthy. Service was good. The servers are super knowledgeable about the menu and cuisine. They gave us general history and were able to let us know what to expect when we were ordering.
Owamni provided an unforgettable dining experience, especially for a birthday celebration. The Native American-inspired menu was masterfully crafted, with each dish showcasing a harmonious blend of flavors. The smoked elk ribs, oysters with blackberry mignonette, and bison picanha were exceptional, with each component standing out on its own but becoming extraordinary when combined. The dessert, a blue bread paired with squash caramel and maple fluff, was the perfect balance of sweetness and texture—truly mind-blowing. Every bite reflected thoughtful execution and a celebration of unique, indigenous ingredients.
An absolute delight from start to finish. The service was fantastic, everyone was knowledgeable and dedicated to Sean Sherman’s mission of getting decolonized food to the main stage. We had the Bison Walnut Soup, Sweet Potato with Maple Chili Crisp, a corn crusted elk dish, Mixed Seeds with Blueberries and Maple, and Sweet Potato Donuts. Incredible flavors and beautiful presentation. Being able to eat decolonized food stirred up some emotions, and I can’t wait to visit again!
I have been there twice in 6 months. Each visit was a great pleasure. Being European, I had a great time discovering the food as native people enjoyed it before. It was such a nice experience and gave me a great appreciation of the native culture. The food is delicious, slightly foreign and very ingenious. They have plenty of vegetarian/vegan options. The staff is friendly and professional. I would happily visit every time my travels bring me to the city.
My partner and I have been super excited to try Owamni & we went there for his birthday. The experience was absolutely incredible. Our server Karina was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent service. All of the staff were great and you can tell they all value each other which elevates the dining experience. We tried the summer menu. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this restaurant is 100% gluten free. All of the ingredients are fresh and after leaving the restaurant we were full but we didn’t feel HEAVY. I highly recommend Owamni to anyone looking for high quality food and service at an affordable price. Dietary restrictions: This restaurant is great for gluten free/celiac people. The menu features nothing with flour making it a 100% gluten free restaurant.
Great spot by the river, usually bustling but best with reservations. Amazing staff. The food is not what you think at first so I would suggest asking questions about each dish. They allow customizations and can be very flexible for different eaters. Perfect if you have a friend willing to try new things. The non-alcoholic drinks and teas are very light in flavor. My personal favorite is the hot mushroom drink.
Everything about this dining experience was spectacular. The environment was inviting and cool with a great view, food was incredible three sisters stew, Marichou, and bean dip were my favorites and my colleagues raved about the oysters & duck, and the staff were all wonderful. I also love what they stand for and their commitment to decolonization and community. You can feel it in the fabric of the entire area really, it’s pretty special.
