Story

Oz Restaurant & Bar, founded by Michael and Ashley Darby, is the DC area’s first authentic Australian restaurant. Come on by and savor the flavorful dishes created by Chef Brad Feickert.

A modern Australian restaurant situated in the trendy Clarendon neighborhood, Oz delivers a casual dining experience with tasty dishes, delicious drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere – not to mention a blue sky all year round!

With a focus on fresh ingredients and simplicity, Oz’s cuisine allows each element to be appreciated for its true flavor. A list of handcrafted cocktails and cold beers is on hand to wash down each bite, while wines are offered from both the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

Fashioned after an Australian country home, each of Oz’s areas has a different feel with the same comfort. The enclosed front porch welcomes natural light while the interior dining room offers a cozier option. Our copper lounge is a chic space under the blue sky, and wraparound outside seating immerses diners in the Clarendon buzz.

Join us for a bloody good brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. We will help you experience Australia without crossing the International Date Line.

I ordered the barramundi fish and chips. Found a hair sticking out of the batter that had been fried, gross! Waiter was extremely apologetic, but I had lost my appetite at that point. He brought me a menu and suggested I select something else. I chose the seafood pasta with mussels and shrimp. A big pile of tasteless spaghetti with a few tiny baby shrimp and five or six mussels. Disappointing. I tried the exotic meat sliders, but did not eat the buns since I wanted to get the full meat flavor. The kangaroo tasted like hamburger, the camel was mild flavored, nice and the venison was okay. The emu meat was not that great, not much flavor. The restaurant was virtually empty on a Sunday afternoon (9/17/17) Redskins game, maybe. Anyway, I won't be returning.

My friends and I came for brunch on a Sunday. Neither one of us had been here before. The atmosphere was nice. The live music was a bit loud so we opted to be seated outside. The restaurant's service was great. Unfortunately, the food isn't much to rave about. Everything was edible but it's not something you'd go out your way to eat here. I tried two plates: the ricotta pancakes and the chicken & doughnuts. Both items were bland and lacked basic seasoning. I like the bottomless mimosas, but I won't be coming back for the food.

3.5 ish stars. I came here for bottomless brunch especially excited for some of their exotic foods, only to find out that those dishes aren't included on the brunch menu. $35 is on the higher price for bottomless brunch, but I got drunk and enjoyed the food enough that it didn't bother me too much. The downside was the service - on a not-so-crowded Sunday, our waitress checked in on us once every 20 minutes or so and would miss an order here and there...Not great when the brunch plates are small and you need to keep ordering. I will return for there exotic menu!

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was quite busy. The restaurant well laid out and seems to be very popular for groups. The music is just a little too loud, causing everyone to have to talk louder, making it not the best place for having an actual conversation. Could have just been the time we were there, of course - it really is a popular spot. The brunch menu only had 3 or 4 items that were considered Australian. I ordered the Brekky Pie, which was good but not what I'd consider authentic. The Bagel and Eggs were delicious, and all the meals looked appealing, which also explains why this place is so popular. They have a lot of beers on tap from Australia. However, it would be nice if at least one of the TVs in the bar area showed an Australian sport so actual Australians could go there to watch live or recent games. They also sponsor the local (US) Australian Football team, which is another pretty cool aspect of the restaurant.

Decent bar overall. Staff are really friendly, but lack even a basic understanding of Australian culture and as a result, the bars menu. As an Australian themed bar it's hit and miss: big points for having Coopers Pale Ale on tap, but some of the worst pies I've ever eaten. Loses a point for that alone. Whoever makes them has clearly never been to Australia.
