Established in 1950, Paisan’s Italian Restaurant remains one of Madison's favorites for Thin Crust Pizza, Homemade Pasta and trademark sandwiches.

Story

-Paisan's features one of Madison's finest outside dining areas. During our warm months, our patio features a relaxing outdoor environment like no other. Sorry, no reservations on the patio.
-We DO take reservations inside for parties 8 and larger and NOT on Friday or Saturday nights.

-Street and ramp parking available.
-Metered street parking at $1.75/hour
-Ramp parking $2.00/hour. Free parking with validation Monday-Friday after 5:00pm and all day Saturday and Sunday.
-Ramp only accepts credit and debit cards. NO CASH.

The Host gave us the choice of three tables, all of which were dirty, and then we were not greeted by our server for at least 10 minutes. It took 5 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered, even though we were seated next to the drink station and there were maybe a total of 10 tables sat in the entire restaurant. Our server was very fake and would yell across the room at her tables rather than walk over to check on them. Once the food came it was delicious, but again when we were ready for boxes and the check our server was no where to be found. We had to again ask the host to help us, right after we watched them seat a party at a table covered in crumbs on the chair, table, and floor. Finally on the way out five employees were standing by the front talking to each other and none of them acknowledged us or offered to assist with getting our parking validated. My girlfriend has been going to this restaurant for 25+ years with her family and the service has never been this poor. I would not recommend this establishment if you want a clean environment or good service from any of the staff members.

Truly not that impressive especially considering it is supposedly a favorite amongst so many locals! Service was decent. We went there for a late lunch and I ordered the spicy meatball sub off the lunch special. The meatballs were lukewarm at best and clearly not fresh made as the efforts to heat up the meatballs was pretty pathetic. I tried a slice of my husband's pizza and it was just ok, the pepperoni had a weird smoky taste to it. I paid $7.75 for a "glass" of Chianti that was maybe only 1/3 of the way full and I was not impressed with the flavor profile either. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to raise a stink but the whole time I kept thinking there are so many other Italian restaurants in Madison that are way better! Views are fine but hard to see the lake from where we were seated due to the row of bushes along the outside wall. I'm glad I gave it a try but probably will not go back.

I've been coming to Paisan's since I was a wee lass, probably two locations ago. Consistently has some of the best pizza in town (the "Super Hot" is perhaps my favorite pizza ever) and I love their porta salads as an appetizer (but go into the salad expecting something delicious and unhealthy). They will always bring you a basket of bread at the beginning of the meal - ask you're server for sourdough only (they typically bring a mix of French and sourdough breads, and the French simply isn't worth your time). Service is always great and the food is consistent. The current location also has a fabulous view! Love Paisan's and will always return!

I’m giving a 3 because I enjoyed the building, neat place for a restaurant. I was excited to try this place, but, sadly, I didn’t enjoy the food. We’ve been to some neat Italian restaurants in numerous towns, and we’ve had some great authentic Italian fair. So I was disappointed with my glob of mushy noodles under a mediocre piece of chicken topped with sauce that was just okay. I did hear that the pizza was good, but we didn’t go there to have pizza.

Good Italian restaurant overlooking Lake Monona. Some rooms have beautiful views of the lake. Traditional Italian food. Good waitstaff.
