Library is fine, if you want to use a reference book and then leave. If you need a quiet place to study, you may not find it there. It has a Quiet Study Room upstairs that I used on weekends when my school library was closed, but people seemed to not realize that it's just that -- a "quiet" study room. Patrons had full fledged conversations in there, either on their cell phones or with each other. And it's not like there's a Quiet Study Room police to ask them politely to step outside, so I dealt with it when I couldn't find any other place to study.

The gold standard of a library. Their summer reading program is incredibly popular, they have book clubs and workshops for all ages, they're always selling used books, they get new DVDs and movie soundtracks right when they come out, and their new self-checkout is super efficient. I've always loved going here!

Palatine library is a great place to bring your kids and read books and play with them. It gives them a break from all the (technology). Friendly staff who's willing to help you find a book and answer your questions.

I like to bring my kids to the library to read, but the library set up a play area in the middle of the kids book section and it becomes soooo noisy, especially during the summer.  Sometimes it is out of control. Kids run around, screaming and shouting. It is really hard to concentrate on reading. I could even hear the noise after I moved to the second floor. I complained to the librarians and they did go to talk to the kids and their parents. It went quiet for like 2 minutes and then it became as noisy as before.
