The food was between good and decent. I would give it a 4 of 5 stars. The way the restaurant is run and the wait staff I would give a 2. The wait staff will bring you a desert menu because you asked but give you the check at the same time after ignoring your large party. One of the better restaurants in San Marcos.

I have had the great honor of traveling all over the world. Palmer's is home to me. Palmer's is a piece of San Marcos history. Under new ownership for the past several years, I've personally watched this longtime local favorite establishment flourish. I've also watched the owner tirelessly give back to charity. Palmer's is what's great about eating local. It's great service. It's great food. It's a great menu. Wonderful drinks. Perfect atmosphere. It's a local business that supports local endeavors. The current owner cares so much about his clientele, that he stops by tables to say hello — no matter how busy he is. If you're looking for a place to bring your family and friends, I highly recommend this establishment. Sit outside in the comfort of the courtyard and soak in the beautiful foliage and atmosphere. This is a glowing review. And I stand behind every single word. Terri Hendrix

I ate dinner here with my grandparents and we had a great time. The staff was very pleasant to interact with and the server had some good lingo, when he left us to look at the menu he said, "I'll let you chew on that" to indicate he'd be back in a bit while we looked. The entree was very tasty (pulled pork sandwich), but more importantly the fries here were immaculate. They were the best fries I've ever had at a restaurant, they were battered very thin and had a great crispy flaky feel while maintaining a soft potato inside. Overall fantastic restaurant.

Awesome food and fantastic service!! It's a fancier place, so the food is obviously a tad more expensive BUT it's 100% worth it. Every dish the family ordered was to die for! Super juicy and flavorful! Shout out to our waiter Jason Natolli for providing the best service possible. He knows the menu like the back of his hand and recommended AMAZING options. Definitely coming back here soon!!

I've lived in San Marcos now for 10 years, and I honestly can't count how many wonderful times (and meals, and cocktails — especially cocktails) I've had at Palmer's. I know the place has been here for a lot longer than I have, but most of my visits have been since the current ownership took over. San Marcos has been blessed in recent years with a growing number of new fine-dining options, but for me Palmer's will always be the one that feels the most like home. Part of that's the atmosphere — it's elegant enough to always feel like a special night out (or brunch or happy hour), but in a warm and cozy and inviting way, almost like a San Martian's own Cheers — but with a great menu. The service in my experience has always been top notch, with a visit to the table by owner Monte almost always a given. If he doesn't remember you by name (yet), odds are he will by your next visit, or he'll at least already know the names of everyone else at your table or sitting next to you at the bar. He makes you feel not just welcomed, but appreciated, even when the place is slammed. The wait staff and bartenders are the same way. The food and drinks are prepared with care, too, and though the prices admittedly aren't "cheap" (at least not always on my salary), they've always seemed fair to me: The point of going out to Palmer's is to enjoy a quality dining-out experience, and that's what you get for your money. What's more — literally — is that the portions are very generous and satisfying, even to an admitted glutton/starving artist like me: the average entree (not to mention even the salads) arrives at your table looking like a home-cooked meal rather than a "where's the rest of it?" plate served at an uber-trendy bistro. Pair it with a beautifully mixed cocktail, glass of wine, perhaps a desert (bread pudding if you know what's good for you), and most important of all a dear friend or even a whole table of them — be it in the bar, the dining room, or out on the beautiful patio — and you've got yourself the makings of another perfect San Marcos memory. That's worth every dollar.
