My wife and I visited Palo Duro Canyon State Park on September, 2017. We participated on the Six Pack Series Capital Peak Classic Mountain Bike Race the first day and hiked the remainder of the week. The place is stunning and full of surprises if you venture out. Bring a lot of water with you, the heat is pretty intense as there is minimal tree cover. There was an issue with water quality during our visit so that made the stay a little bit challenging but fun (it's outdoor camping, so you figure things out). This was my very first time ever that I was able to see the Milky Way with my eyes, the night sky is so beautiful and then we were also surprised with the brightest moonlight I've ever encountered and a wake up call from a pack of Coyotes. Long drive from Houston but it was worth it.

Spectacular scenery and a mellow vibe. Feels like a piece of New Mexico in Texas. Interesting little gift shop/museum that is a "must stop". Cool air conditioned cabins and campsite rentals available. Highly recommend you see it. Nearby Canyon and Amarillo offer lots to do while out there.

As Texas Parks and Wildlife's second biggest park, Palo Duro Canyon has been one of my most favorite places to spend weekends and holidays. After 25 years it has grown and had some upgrades and now I get to adventure through this beautiful park with my family. I highly recommend this place for any occasion.

Beautiful country!! Great place to hike; bring plenty of water though - the park recommends a gallon of water per person. Wear boots, sun hat and bring your trekking poles. Don't forget you camera! Fantastic scenery. Wonderful historical site of the Comanche Indians. Also plan on staying for the musical "Texas" at 8pm at the large outdoor Amphitheater. Most of Texas State parks are nice but this is definitely one of the better ones!!

We spent a full day in the park. We drove the loop in one direction and had a picnic lunch. We then took the hike to the lighthouse. After that we drove around the loop the other direction to get a totally different perspective. The canyon was beautiful and well worth the visit. There are also horse, bike, and dining trails as well as a number of additional hiking trails.
