The Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center (PJTC) is a synagogue and community center affiliated with the Conservative Movement whose members observe a wide range of Jewish beliefs and practices. PJTC is dedicated to perpetuating all aspects of Jewish life and to fostering a sense of Jewish identity among its members, both as individuals and as a community. The Temple provides an active house of prayer, education and assembly. PJTC seeks to include and accept all those who wish to worship, study, or develop cultural or social ties to Judaism.
The Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center traces its roots to 1923 with the opening of Temple B'nai Israel at the southeast comer of Hudson and Walnut Streets. In 1942, the Temple found a new home at its present location. The name was changed to reflect our function as a Jewish social center as well as a place of worship.
Sisterhood provides a full program of services to foster the ideals of Jewish family life. Sisterhood sponsors Oneg Shabbats; and special congregational events, as well as assisting the Hebrew school in observing the Sabbath and Holidays. In addition, Sisterhood operates the Judaica Shop, where members can purchase religious gift-ware, Israeli art objects, and books.
Our Membership Committee offers a variety of programs to meet the special needs of Temple members. The Havurah program, independent social groups within our temple family, is designed to provide fellowship among members of similar ages, interests and needs. Participation in one of these small groups is a great way to widen your circle of friends and form an extended family.
The Membership Assistance Committee (Big Mac) provides support for members coping with death, illness or other difficult period in their lives.
The Temple's youth program provides a variety of activities for children of all ages. Children's and teen activities are coordinated through our youth committee in conjunction with the youth director and B'nai B'rith Youth Organizations.
The Social Action and Community Relations Committees work to increase awareness of social problems and encourage members to help in finding solutions. They also represent the congregation in various interfaith groups involved in such efforts. Temple members work with Pasadena's Union Station for the homeless, and with Project Isaiah which collects non-perishable food and clothing for distribution to charitable organizations.
PJTC provides a meeting site for a variety of affiliated organizations. B’nai B'rith, Weizmann Day School and more provide additional services, opportunities and specialized programs.
We hope that you will take part in the wide variety of experiences that Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center has to offer. PJTC invites you to become involved. Join us for prayer, study and community activities.
