This page is to show my perspective about the Payne Center on campus of Southern Miss University.

Story

he Payne Center is a place where students go to work out, have fun, and play different
intramural sports. It is a great place to relax and feel free after a long day of classes. It was built
in 1993, and was donated by the brothers Jimmy and Larry Payne. At the Payne Center, they
have different things that would catch your attention such as: a swimming pool, basketball
courts, workout areas, weight room, full length track, and different events that take place weekly.

The Payne Center is great for students but with all the students hanging out there is not enough privacy for me. Seems like more of a hangout spot for students instead of a gym.

Awesome place with good facilities but my opinion is that it is smaller than it should be to accommodate all sports at same time. Badminton , volleyball, basketball and also for few events , all on one floor. One has to compromise to let other play.

Payne center is good if you are a usm student, but the early bird part of me wishes it were open 24 hours a day instead.

Great facility and envorinment. The trainers and other staff are all friendly. But if you aren't connected to USM somehow you won't be able to experience it. One of the biggest things I dislike about the payne is there is no powerlifting allowed. Other than that great gym.
