Pastor Lisa Farrell was born and raised right here on the Main Line. She graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1976, and went to Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. While at Franklin and Marshall she won an Andrew Mutch Scholarship, a full merit scholarship from the Saint Andrew’s Society in Philadelphia to attend the University of Edinburgh for her junior year.
Lisa felt called to the ministry as a young college student, but did not tell anyone. The concept of ministry, at that point a largely male dominated field, was unfamiliar territory. While at Edinburgh University she decided to take a class in New Testament to test her sense of call. As it turns out, she was permitted to do so only because she was an “Andrew Mutch Scholar.” The providence of God not only provided the means to study in Scotland, but it opened doors which would otherwise have been closed. By the end of the year she had transferred from Franklin and Marshall to the University of Edinburgh to do a joint BA BD degree. A BD (Bachelor of Divinity) is the Scottish equivalent of an MDiv.
Pastor Lisa will be the first to tell you that her struggles in life have been what have taught her the most. Compassion for others cannot be learned in a classroom. It must come from within. Despite her insatiable desire to learn (in 2013 she graduated from the Lutheran Seminary of Philadelphia earning a Masters in Sacred Theology and a Doctor of Ministry) people come first. Experiencing the heartbreak of divorce and the struggle of being a single parent has given her a unique perspective. Under her leadership Penn Wynne Presbyterian has continued to thrive and grow as a loving community of faith where all people are welcomed and loved.
God has richly blessed Penn Wynne Presbyterian Church with gifts for transformational, emotional and spiritual healing through the love of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, led by the Holy Spirit, and following Jesus's example, we seek to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
(2 Peter 3:18).
We discern God's will-and direction through regular Bible reading and -prayer, trusting Jesus's promise that "the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father has sent, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26).
For a world that's lost in darkness, for the needy and the hurting, for the young and for the old, we seek to share God's healing love and message of salvation to all within our congregation and community.
