The food was good. The service was okay. It was kind of weird because my kids dad's girlfriend works there. I have nothing against her. Our waitress is friends with her as well. I did not appreciate the employees walking by just to see who I am. I did not particularly care for our waitress acting stand offish.  It just gave me a weird feeling. She also could've brought me a second drink. That'd have been nice. I normally tip between 20 and 25% but, not this time... 
I mean...am I not allowed to eat pepes because she works there?

I would like to say that I try every Mexican place in every city I go and this one just happens to be the worst. My experience started off with bad service on a lunch day sitting outside along with several other people. I ordered a ice tea to start off with and it never came. I got through half of the nasty day old unsalted chips and the so called salsa they make with canned tomatoes, onions and lots of water before she checked on me and realized she forgot. Then to bring me a tea with two ice cubes on a 80 degree day. I stilled ordered my tacos that I requested to be Grilled chicken and it came shredded loaded with water. Water literally ran out of the soft shell like a faucet.  Never will I go back.

Generous portions.  Good flavor but not too spicy for the kids.  Good salsa - ask for the spicy salsa if you like a little more heat.

Fiance & I are new to the area, notice the place is always packed so wanted to try it. I don't really get the popularity. Service was just mediocre, but it was very busy so I don't fault them for that. Worst salsa I've ever had in my life - extremely watery & no real flavor at all. Lack of flavor was kind of a running theme, especially anything with steak or ground beef. Pork tamales & chicken fajita meat were excellent, beans were good, everything else was very bland. Margarita was overly sweet & I didn't care for the cheap plastic cup it came in.

We had a good waitress last night and appreciate her assistance with our birthday party. 
Our tradition for over 20 years with my kids has been to eat at pepes for their birthdays. 
Unfortunately I have not been impressed with Pepes for many years and will not eat dinner there on any other day. I didnt even order myself dinner thereast night. The taste of food has declined and the price has gone up. There's no specials anymore, no taco night or margarita night. It's a shame because we would at least go for drinks if we didn't eat. 
Service has gone down hill. Other than last with a good waitress we've had nothing but poor service.
It's a shame pepes has been around for along time.  I used to go with kids when it was on st. Rd 38. 
Hopefully they will look into making some changes.
