Went to PMS in the 80's, and it was a real hell hole where teachers favored students based on financial and social standing. They encouraged bullying, and turned a blind eye to the problem which was out of control. The teaching staff were verbally, physically and mentally abusive. They were apathetic to students with learning disabilities, and rather than try to help them treated them like idiots and criminals. Without going into a long tirade, I'll just say that on more than one occasion while attending PMS I contemplated ending my life. Yes, I was a misfit, and yes I was a target of bullies. I was also led to believe that it was entirely my fault and that I was the problem. That's how they operated back then. I had hoped things have changed since then, but after reading one of the other in depth reviews I see that it has not. Sounds like they still have a policy of abuse. Fall in line or else! That's the PMS way!

Mr. Wilcox, the newer principal at Petoskey Middle School is very rude. I didnt have him as a principal because he was hired during my 9th grade year. But I have heard him talk to the students really terribly. For example; instead of politely asking the middle schooler to be quiet, by saying "Please keep it down". Mr. Wilcox will literally yell "Shut Up" to the children! It's absolutely terrible and very inappropriate. How does he expect to have the students listen to him if he also acts like a middle schooler. I feel like the kids need a good rolemodel, all through school they tell us if we need an adult to talk to then we can always talk to the teachers/ other adults who work at the school. How does he expect kids to look up to him or talk to him if he's always rude to everyone. It's completely unacceptable. What about the kids who have anxiety or depression? I know for a fact when someone is yelling at them, they will break down or even do worse things. Mr. Wilcox is seriously damaging children's mental health. These kids are already getting bullied at school and at home, and picked on by other kids. Then with the principal always yelling at them added onto that. This is why kids are stressed out about going to school everyday and why they act sick so they can stay home. This is why kids hate going to school. School is stressful enough because of school work, they do not need more bad things added on top. My little sister who is in middle school came home today totally upset, almost to the point of crying because of how she was treated at Petoskey Middle School.
